Did I completely miss them, or are there no bicycle racks at the Safeway shopping center?

I rode my bike to the gym tonight, and couldn't find anywhere to lock it up. I didn't want to lock it to a bench or sign on the covered sidewalk area, so I had to lock it to the Handicapped Parking sign in the parking lot.

I was a bit worried this was against the law...but I couldn't really find an alternative.

After the gym, I picked up Asia Cafe for dinner. No rack over there either, but I could watch my bike from inside.

On my way home, I passed a couple on bikes, and dad and son on bikes. All headed to the shopping center to be good consumers.

We have a great community layout and paths that encourage biking, and obviously, residents are tooling around on the two-wheelers.

Can we get some racks installed at a few locations in each shopping center? At the parks might be good too (but there may already be some there, I haven't looked).

My small suggestion is to take a parking space and put a multi-rack there. Maybe two or three of these spaces around the parking lot....

FWIW, I saw someone bring their bike into the gym this afternoon and park it near the back door.

Me too. I'd love to see some bike racks at the shopping centers in our area.

HM...interesting idea. I'll ask Ish about it next time I see him at the gym...

(Though a rack makes more sense, this would work in the interim.)

    Thanks,

I sent an email to Julie Miller at Saul. Will see if they respond.

I thought VM was going to put in a bike rack at the SW pool already.

The racks would be put to good use! Right now the bikes are just parked out front. The racks would add some organization and a means to lock them up.

I really like the idea of bike racks at the pools. As a kid, I remember biking to our local pool all the time...

I'll bring it up at the Board meeting in 2 weeks.

The community Center pool has a bike rack but the kids usually just "toss" them in a pile anyway...

Is this a problem with 'location' or maybe even 'enforcement'?

It is not location. The bike rack is just outside the pool entrance (you can't get into the pool with out walking past it). However most people who ride their bike there just drop them as if it is too hard to put them in the rack. Now that is not to say all do but alot of times the pople who would put them in the rack are not able to becasue they it is blocked by all the people who just drop.

As far as enforcement there is not really any way to enforce people to use them. We do not need life gaurds watching this there is enough stuff they are responsible for this should not be part of their jobs and after that there really is no one else.

I think that there would probably be a use at Southernwalk pool but for now most pople who are going to chain them up already do so to the fence and the rest just drop them in a pile next to the entrance. I have a feeling that would continue even with a bike rack but it is deffinatly something that is worth considering.
