    Snow defeated

Snow loses to Miller by a wide margin. Barely carries his own precinct (Litle River) and loses all other precincts.

    Steve J. Snow 3,983 42.13%

Where did you see a voting block for the homeless shelter? I don't recall seeing that one on my ballot.

This is the last time I am voting in favor of anything that benefits other parts of the county on the bond issues. It is OK that we vote in favor of things that don't benefit us in Broadlands but the one issue that would benefit us, the rec center, gets defeated. If that is how the rest of them feel, then they just lost my vote on their projects.

Now that all the issues on ballot except Brdlnds Rec Ctr have passed, does it mean our taxes will go up?

Just curious, why do people think the Rec Center was defeated?

I'm wondering if it was the wording of the proposal. Instead of saying a community recreation center in Ashburn, it was referred to as the "Broadlands Recreation Center".

I think thats exactly why it was defeated, I had a feeling with that name that it was going to lose. Claude Moore and Ida Lee are better names for these County facilities, it doesn't personalize it. Why would western Loudoun vote for the Broadlands Rec Center, or for that matter, why would anybody in Ashburn Village vote yes. I'm with Surfboarder, its all about me from now on in my voting.

That was exactly my concern when I saw the sample ballot. Calling it "Broadlands" and not "Ashburn" was the kiss of death, especially for a rec center.

I think the cost of the rec center might have been the kicker, considering it was multitudes higher than any other project.... *shrug*

I think that's part of it. "Why do those rich people in Broadlands need a rec center?" Plus when you look at the cost of it ($31MM) compared to the ~ $15MM for two elementary and one high school...it seemed very expensive. As someone living here, I didn't see the need for it at that relative price tag.

Silence...that's to buy the LAND, not build a school. High school's around here are now in the $80,000,000 range and elementary schools are now in the $20-$30 million dollar range.

Oh, you better believe your taxes are going up. Even without these bonds, the amount of money that will be spent on the school system alone will guarantee tax increases for the foreseeable future.

I know, but I was saying that it makes it "appear" that our "rich" subdivision wanted to build a "rec center" (much different connotation than a community center) that cost twice as much as three schools.
