They have been in the family for as long as I can remember:

The VT glass is there to give you a sense of scale. They are hollow & obviously hand made. They do not have any device for a candle or any other such lighting.

    Any ideas?

Note to self: reduce picture size.

I don't know what they are, but they have "Ebay" written all over them.

I'm not sure I could see it very well. Could you resend a bigger picture? :)

I'm positive it's the Holy Grail.

Now that I think of it, I'm pretty certain that I saw these on "Atlantis Squarepantis" last night.

What, if anything, does it say on the bottom? And are they hollow all the way down? If so, you could put a taper in there. Or is it just the bowl?

Could they be egg cups? Hard to tell with this scale, though.

    Victorian Mantle Lustres

"Lusters - Mantle and table decorations, or pedestal vases, lusters have hanging glass prisms. Those with one row of prisms are more common, while the double hung prisms are rarer and usually more costly. Their name refers to the prisms. A single glass prism is a lustre or luster - with either spelling being correct.
These were always expensive and were usually found in only the more prominent homes. This is still true today, with some of the more affluent homes owning several pair. There are many collectors today, of those who can afford this luxury, the hunt that turns up these treasured art objects is part of the joy of these collections. Often you will find a single luster. When estates were settled it was not uncommon for one to be left to each of two daughters, other family members or friends and thus the pair was separated."

I believe you are quoting from the (very) old "Arabian Nights" cartoon that used to be part of "Banana Splits"? Drooper was always my favorite...

I have to admit I had no idea what those, er, lovely pieces were. I ran the terms "mantle china crystal" on Google Images and up they popped.

    I love Google.

You appear to have gotten this from phyllisantiques.com. If you look at her collection there is a set that looks very much like mine. If you hover over the image it says that they sell for $1,695 - $1,099.

Might just pay for the December happy hour!!!
