Vacliff had mentioned that there is a proposal to change the school boundaries and I understand there is a meeting scheduled on 12. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it...Can someone tell me what are those proposed school boundary changes. My kids attend Millrun elementary and we live in SouthernWalk. Is this going to affect us?

The meeting is on Tuesday the 13th at 6:30pm at the School Admin Building.
There were several proposes that affect Broadlands. I encourage all concerned residents to attend.

The proposed staff recommendation is online. http://cmsweb1.loudoun.k12.va.us/509905169119/lib/509905169119/DN Staff Rec.pdf

I'm not satisfied. Yes, my kid stays at Mill Run. But, it keeps Mill Run over-capacity for the SIXTH year in a row. Other schools over capacity:
    Sanders Corner
    Hillside
    Legacy

Under capacity in the same area:
    Creighton's Corner (new)
    Rosa Lee Carter
    Cedar Lane
    Stewart Weller (new)

They have to be able to do better.

I have something to say on all this and a few ideas and soilutions but I will wait and see the final outcome before I do;););););)

Isn't that a first from Lee, keeping his mouth shut for a bit longer, but certainly not quiet.:):)

Right, ok, well, for all those others with something to say, the public hearing is Monday November 26 at the School Board building in the Broadlands at 6:30 pm.

Hope this works out for our families here. I just can't imagine going through this uncertainty and living with over crowded schools all the time. I guess that's one benefit of home schooling. Best of luck.

Yes and you all need to go to these meetings and talk it out.

I have been formulating some solutions on my own that can have more of a permanent solution and I am not totally satisfied with my solutions at the moment.

Talk with out solutions as I always say is a waste of time. Hopefully you all can come to your own solutions if only temporary for the coming year. My thinking is more county wide not just specific to the broadlands so it can solve what many of these kids have been going thru changing schools every year. I know I hated changing schools as a kid and that was changing from elementary to middle to jr high to high school nothing even close what these poor kids are going thru. If we don't find a county wide solution then the possibility of the broadlands and other neighborhoods being in a uproar will continue forever every year the way the school administrators are going about this. Perhaps some major pain now for a permanent solution would be far better then pain of going thru this every year of moving kids around.

Its called 'LEARNING' - its what happens when you listen to someone else who knows something you may not.

Are you suggesting you know all there is to know on the topic?

Here's my synopsis from the last School Board meeting and the Staff recommended plan.
First of all, this is NOT the final plan. Many changes can still be made.

From the Broadlands perspective, what I was looking for in my Plan 454 are incorporated into the recommended plan:
Broadlands north, including Overland Park, remain at Hillside.
Broadlands south, including sections 13 and 20, remain at Mill Run. The plan also keeps the Carisbrooke area, Villages of Waxpool, and the Regency at Mill Run. At first glance, it seemed odd that the Regency would remain; especially since Mill Run remains over capacity. Mill Run has been continuously promised relief "next year", but the years go by and no real relief is given.
Here's some of the logic behind it: The final "home" for Regency is expected to be the Moorefield Station school that is expected to open in 2010. Rather than move Regency out now, then move them again two years later, it is being recommended Regency remain at Mill Run until Moorefield Station opens.
This is the same logic used to keep Farmwell Hunt at Mill Run until next year, when they move to their "permanent" home of Steuart Weller.
Also, Paul Vickers will probably be happy because he will not lose any of his staff.

The next School Board meeting is Monday, November 26, 6:30pm at the School Admin. Building on Broadlands Blvd.
If you are satisfied with the plan, please speak out!!! Do not assume that just because this is the recommended plan, it will not change. If you live in Overland Park, let them kow you support the plan. If you live in Sections 13 and 20, let them know you support the plan!

The School Board just adopted the DuPree/Ohneiser/Reed plan.
This keeps Hillside a Broadlands school and provides significant relief for Mill Run while keeping all of Broadlands south at Mill Run.

Where do we find this plan online? The link in the thread references numbers and not people's names.

Go to the main site. Click on Legislative and Planning. The plans are listed there. The numbered plans as well as this one.

Capacity at MillRun is too high compared to other schools. Because of the slump in housing market how accurate are the projected #s for capacity for 2008 and beyond?

They're pretty confident for 2008 and 2009, but the numbers will be revisited for 2010 and beyond.
Many of the newer schools are being built with capacities larger than Mill Run.
