We have had wonderful experiences with the opthalmology dept at Children's Hospital - Dr. MJ Miller and Dr. Bazemore are awesome. They are both great. Dr. Miller is mainly in DC but we have been able to see Dr. Bazemore at the satellite location in Fairfax. They are both female and are caring and gentle.

Dr Kern is good, but can take awhile to get an appointment. There are not many pediatric ophthalmologists in the area.

My 4 year old needed an eye doctor as well last year and we had a terrific experience with Dr. Bullard (sp?) at Northern Virginia Opthamology in the Ashburn office. 703-534-3900. Our pediatrician recommended him and he was great with our son.

Our Eye Doctor in Chantilly, Dr. Athelli, is excellent with my children, ages 7 and 4. I've been going to him for 8 years and the kids have both gone annually since they were 3 years old.

I second Dr. Kern. I've never had problems getting an appointment in a reasonable amount of time, maybe it was just my timing. My daughter has also seen her partner too (who seemed to be just as good).

My 3 year old just saw Dr. Kern's partner (Janine Smith) this morning and she was very good with my daughter. We were referred to Dr. Kern but wanted to get my daughter checked before Dr. Kern's next available appt in mid-July. I preferred Dr Smith and the office vs. that of the opthamology dept. with Childrens' Hospital in Fairfax that we frequented for my son. Dr Kern/Smith's office is right across the street from the Sterling Home Depot, so not too far.
