Not sure if you already picked up a cake, but GREAT bakeries in the area for you and anyone else in the future:

    Heildelberg Pastry Shoppe, Arlington, VA.
Owners are Wolfgang and Carla and they are incredibly hospitable, not to mention their "Sample Saturdays" are phenomenal. They did a graduation cake for my brother last weekend, and were able to take his graduation photo and scan it on the cake - and the photo was edible! Absolutely stunning work, and visiting the bakery is a treat (not to mention smells delicious). Decorating is grand. They're doing a cute bake a brownie for dad this father's day weekend. Visit http://www.heidelbergbakery.com/

Also, Edible Incredible in Reston and a new location in the Brambleton shopping plaza. Talk to Robyn or Allyn, the owners. Visit www.ediblesincredible.com. Fantastic frosting - the melt in your mouth butter and sugar kind.

If you go on to the Retail Bakers of America website, you can search for bakeries too.

If you visit these bakeries, tell them that RBA sent you!

I have to give a shout out for Chantel's in Sterling. We've used them for every "occasion cake" we've needed in 5 years. They're awesome from a service perspective. They're awesome from a taste perspective. They're awesome from a decorating perspective.

Here's some pics of the cakes...

Two of those were made to match the homemade invitations I made (the orange punch holes like cheese for a party at Chuck.E.Cheese and the stars for a party at Gymboree)

If you want something fast and tasty, try Wegmans (but don't get the buttercream frosting: waaaayyyy too sweet). They also do custom cookies very inexpensively and very well.

I thought Edible Incredible was fair at best. Expensive, and not "to die for". I got the cupcakes, granted, but for $28 worth of cupcakes, I kind of expected "to die for" ...

Edibles Incrediables has an ego.... that doesn't quite match with all their products. They are better than most... but they had Red Velvet cupcakes one day and I inquired as to whether they were true southern red velvet (Cream cheese icing, subtle chocolatey taste, etc...) I even told them that I make them from scratch on occasion and was told that it would be the best I had ever had. Wow was I disappointed. The icing wasn't cream cheese and the cake while most didn't have a particularly statisfing flavor. But maybe I was still upset by the wrong icing.

Cafe Rumi gets our big thumbs up as well. We love their sandwiches, gelato, and cakes. Our 12 year old specifically requested a Cafe Rumi cake for her birthday.

uhh- YEAH!!!!! Cafe Rumi is alive and kickin' and the BEST baked goods in Ashburn- lovely danishes!

BEAN SCENE CAFE was sold and is now the Sweetest Chef, which has refreshing real fruit boba drinks (find THAT someplace else in Ashburn!), and an excellent mayo-free chicken salad made with ranch dressing, with slices of avocado and provolone.... outstanding! i LOVE having so many choices for great sandwiches and coffee without having prefab franchise food...

    :)

If you want a fabulous cake go to Edibles Incredibles, they are new to Brambleton, but have been in Reston for a while. A bit pricey, but WELL worth the cash and the calories. They can bake a great cake.

Gosh, you guys are making me hungry!

I put out another shout out to Chantal's. I've had great experiences there.

I can't wait to try the chicken salad at the place that took over for the Bean Scene. Thanks for suggestion.
