What is the recourse for this sort of thing. Also, driveway damage, if you have a newly sealed driveway, do they restore it to the same condition?

The contractor has a responsibility to return the disturbed area to it's "original condition". You should contact the Verizon subcontractor who did the digging - they should have left a door knob notice - if there is damage.

Actually just talked to a Supervisor while walking the pups...there is a group working right now up on Broadlands Blvd across from the Safeway gas station. I would go talk to the Supervisor. Good luck to you.

mamatothree is right, the legal term is "original condition" but there are no specifics on what that is. When they came through my area, I called he Loudoun gov cable rep for this very reason. For example, they dig up your lawn -- do they resod it with beautiful lush grass? No, they throw down seed with the escape clause that "in time" it will restore to original condition. With driveways, aesthetics are not a factor, as long as they return it to a structurally sound surface it has been restored to original condition(drive through some areas and you'll see half new driveways). They cut through our invisible dog fence and repaired it without me having to say anything. Hopefully they would do the same with a sprinkler system.

We have a friend in another part of Loudoun who fought them for over a year before getting a new driveway.

Question ... are they digging in the VDOT right of way? If so, they may not have to replace the sprinklers there, as supposedly anything that's built in that ROW is in violation. At least it was that way when the developer was trying to get streets out of bond.

That's not to say it doesn't happen, but if you look at where there are sidewalks, the VDOT right of way ends where the sidewalk meets the main part of the lawn.

I don't believe any utilities are allowed to be in the VDOT ROW. Utilities have their own easements that are outside the VDOT ROW.
You can put sprinklers in the utility easements, but not the VDOT ROW.

Cliff, the reason I originally asked was that back in 2005 or so, when they were putting FIOS in some areas near Leesburg, they were digging in that area between the sidewalk, and the curb.
