I just checked the Loudoun county web page and, like last year, the assesments will be mailed mid Feb.

From what I infer from the web page, http://www.co.loudoun.va.us/news/assessments.htm, I don't have to worry about fainting.

Last year's assessment was the only piece of mail that ever made me light-headed.

I hope they go down, prices of our houses sure have dropped. They had no problem raising them when they skyrocketed.

It does not matter they will just raise the taxes to make up for the drop in home prices. We have an out of control school board who spend the majority of the taxes and they want a hefty jump this year.

Have politicians ever wanted to give up their (spending) power? Even children know it's sooooooo much more fun to spend other people's money.

There are some politicians who are especially "compassionate" because they spend even more of some people's money to "help" others. How admirable.

Um, I wouldn't hold your breath for the rebate check!

I've not seen the assessment yet but mine sure as heck went down and by a lot. Got my mortgage escrow statement today and needless to say I jumped up and down with joy lol. Kinda funny saying that all things considering. I'd much rather have slower sustained growth then the boom that we had 3 years ago. Makes these assessments easier to handle.

Er ... how much are you paying now ?? I seem to recall I was paying less there in Loudoun than I'm currently paying here in Baldwin Borough, just outside of Pittsburgh. About $2K less at twice the assessed value !!

You guys actually have it good !!

I had read somewhere that, even though the assessments were going down due to the slowing market, we should still be expecting a 5% increase in pwhat we'll pay over last year. This is partially due to all the extra programs that have been added when the BOS and school board had too much of our money to throw around (Drug Court and Mandarin Chinese come to mind...).

All I know is that we had a significant reduction in our escrow payment. That made me happy. Still don't know what the assessment is yet.

Don't get too excited if they raise the tax rate your escrow could be short and you will have to make it up down the line.

Don't forget they lowered the tax rate quite a bit last year because of the escalation in home prices. They can raise it just as quick. My quess they will because we have a run away school board that is spending our money like drunken fools.

Interesting. I just received my February mortgage bill and the escrow is $122 more than it was last month. Needless to say I am not jumping for joy.

My assessment last year was at least 10% too high. I never had the time to fight it, but I hope they make the correction this year.

The assessments are on Loudoun's website. You'll need to do the trick from a thread from last year http://www.broadlandshoa.org/hoaforum/showthread.php?t=2634&page=9 but substitute 2008 for 2007.

    Here's what you do
    Go to http://inter1.loudoun.gov/webpdbs/default.htm
    Hit yes
    Click property address
Enter your street number and street (no drive, road, etc)
Right-click on the part under Tax Map No. PIN
A menu pops up, choose open in new window, you will see your current assessment
Now change the URL so 2007 becomes 2008 and hit enter, you will see your upcoming assessment
