Any recommendation as to which would be a good location to place 2nd refrigerator - basement or garage.

    Thank you.

I tend to agree, basement. We had a freezer in the garage, but it tended to run all the time during the summer because of the heat buildup in the garage.

If we hadn't moved, we were going to install an exhaust fan for the garage to help pull that hot, humid air out of there.

I agree. Basement if you have one.
Standard refrigerators don't do well in a garage. They are designed to operate within ambient temperature ranges and conditions found in a climate controlled home. If it's too hot in the garage the compressor can't keep up. Oddly enough, in the winter food in the freezer may actually thaw because the compressor won't kick on when the ambient temp reaches 40 degrees.
However, there are refrigerators available that are designed specifically for a garage environment.

I've had a refrigerator in the garage for 10 years. No problems with freezer or refrigeration section. I run it year round.

Same here, I've had a full-size fridge in the garage for 2 years now without a problem.

Because we once had a garage fire...I'd hesitate to have anything like that in the garage....but we're very cautious now...

If you put a refrigerator in your garage, how on earth will you ever fit your garbage can in there? :p (Couldn't resist!)

In all seriousness, we have our extra fridge in the basement. But we keep 2 cars (& our garbage can) in the garage.

I don't think this is 100% correct. My sister lives in Chicago and she can't leave sodas or canned drinks in their refrigerator in thier garage because it will freeze everything in it. Her first real winter there a bunch of soda cans blew up. It's actually funny, being from Texas, she (and I for that matter) did'nt think that would happen.

Nope......but basement is better than the garage....if you're going to think of it that way....why have it in the kitchen? Trust me - you don't want to go thru what we did with a garage fire........

I thought the argument was more along the lines that a refrigerator is more likely to catch fire in a warm garage than in a climate-controlled basement. Not that I know if that fact is true, but I thought that was the reason for debate and not just where you would prefer a fire.

..and if you have a large TV in the basement. In that case you want the fridge as close to said TV as possible. Or you could look into getting one of these...no need to even get off the couch anymore....
