How about Vienna Inn II, or Tasty Diner II?

Vienna Inn II sounds great and actually I've heard more than one person suggest it!

I had my first beer at Vienna Inn when I was 7 years old. Root Beer that is.

Ahh..Tasty 29 Diner, a true historic VA landmark.

Call the new one the Tasty 267 Diner. I'm all for it!

How about an old fashioned family owned diner which would serve morning breakfasts????? (as well as lunch and dinners)

amen! we need hot breakfast within walking distance- that would be the greatest addition to what is already a pretty good plaza. that and a place to buy funky cool shoes...

What we need is a nice place that a couple can go to for a Martini or cocktail, some good food and some live jazz or R&B music. Maybe a small dance floor to match.

Not a 'night club'. And don't say 'you can go to Bonefish'. If you want to watch sports and hang out with the beer-drinking fans, you have the Steak house, if you want Italian you have San Vito, good family place with a slight upscale feel ... bonefish.

Just gimme something I can go to that offers a relaxing environment, some great drinks, some nice music and an opportunity to feel like we are getting away from the normal stuff.

There used to be a place on RT 7 near Countryside called Basin Street which offered this same thing. Unfortunately after about 5-6 years, the owner passed away of a heart attack. His son took over but never had the passion for it and it is now a Thai place.

Maybe it is too niche for Broadlands?

    take care,
    Chris

That's what 321 was to me. No dancefloor, which was fine by me, but I enjoyed sitting at the bar having nice glass of wine in an upscale, relaxing (kid free!) environment. I'm sad to see it gone.

But if a breakfast type place opened up I'd be thrilled! (Although with all the interest noted here, the line would likely be out the door every day, deterring me anyway.)

321 did indeed try to have the "relaxing" adult environment complete with jazz music but as you can see, it did not take. As an alternative, we go to Landsdowne where one can still have the fine dining, relaxed environment and entertainment.

But what I do not find within a reasonable distance of Ashburn/Broadlands is a diner. I'd love to see a place which would open circa 5ish and have breakfast during the week until 10am (as well as weekend breakfasts too) in addition to lunch. There are so many options for going out to dinner here I wouldn't care if a diner were open for dinner hours or not!

But aren't you getting tired of chains? Wouldn't you rather see more original and family owned enterprises?

My comment was mostly made in jest. I would love to see a family owned breakfast restaurant, just like County Kitchen in Herndon.

However, closest Waffle House is in Dumfries. That's a long way to go for a double order of Hash Brown covered and chunked.

anyone ever been to The Cheesecake Factory?

(they have brunch including giant waffles/all types of giant omelettes, breakfasts, lunch, lots of interesting salads, & dinners. something to please everyone. and of course 34 different types of cheesecake plus other desserts. they also have takeout/curbside to go if you're in a hurry. family friendly and stylish trendy atmosphere. menu is online. www.cheesecakefactory.com ) could possibly become a destination for business lunch meetings.

just throwing it out there. well, it might generate too much traffic.

    Or, California Pizza Kitchen www.cpk.com

(family friendly trendy atmosphere, good pizza/salads/entrees/lunch/dinner, curbside to go if needed, but I don't think they offer breakfast, menu is online.)

    again, just throwing out ideas.

I think the only problem with getting a breakfast place is the cost of the lease. There isn't a large margin available in food. I've found a place locally here in Pittsburgh (actually Brentwood area) where I can have breakfast (toast, coffee, 3-egg omelette, home fries) for under $8.00 + tip.

However, this area has alot of retirees, who go in there for breakfast, conversation, coffee, etc. Its family owned and operated, so they're there from 7am to 5pm, with fill-ins on Sun & Mon. That's alot of time to spend, plus I don't think the lease is as much as it would be for the location there.

In other words, the place would need a large clientel in order to survive. The size of the location would insure that they would be able to handle a large customer flow, its just that they would also have to find someone willing to work as wait staff with minimum wage & tips.

I used to work short order when I was in high school at a corner, family-owned luncheonette, and they basically were able to eke out a living as it was all family run, and I was getting paid 'under the table' as a 'family member' for $5.00 an hour (in '68 & '69 that wasn't bad for a high schooler at 20 hours a week).

Eventually, all the kids (myself & their sons) went off to school or the armed forces, and they sold it off, as they couldn't run it all by themselves, and still pay a reasonable wage for a counter/grill person.

I've been to many Cheesecake Factories and they all have LOBBIES the size of 321. They're WAY too big to consider such a small space, sadly. I wouldn't mind having one nice and close.
