so here's where i could see this being a burden on the restaurant: 20 people come in with $25 gift certs and spend a total of $30, meaning the restaurant earns $5 for giving away $25 worth of food. so they make $100 in cash on $500 worth of food. unless their mark up is 5 times what they paid for the ingredients, they lose money. regardless, their margin is cut razor thin.

15 of those people never or rarely come back- not because the food wasn't good, but because they would have never bothered eating out without such an amazing deal- and they are trying other deals out since there are so many available, or- simply enjoy eating at home more and dining out is rare. tyger- this might fit YOUR profile! lol :)

4 DO return monthly but only when they can use the amazing coupon deal. again- the restaurant makes NO money on these now regular customers because they are only spending $5 for $30 worth of food.

1 returns 1-3 times a month without a coupon and spends full price because they loved the food.

is this worth it for the restaurant to participate? especially here- where you can get EVERY kind of food in more than one place? if we had just one great pizzeria, one excellent wing hut, 1 place for awesome burgers- it might work. but the duplication within 5 miles in Ashburn is crazy!

I don't care if it's not worth it to the restaurant...saves me money on gifts!

The catch is lots of restaurants have certain terms&conditons....

like you need to spend at least $35 or $40 or $50 and in some places, they add 18-20% gratuity......and most of the places exclude alcohol......excludes Fri/Sat and buffet... and only one certificate can be used per visit/per month.....

for places where they have $50 min (pre-tax and pre-tip), then you spend $50+$6(tax)+ $10 (tip) - $25 = $41. I think still restaurants have a good margin of profit...

Sometimes we spend more with the certificate than we would have without ... we may try an appetizer or two or stick around for desserts, something we rarely do otherwise.

Unfortunately, Nagoya doesn't seem to be participating with Restaurant.com anymore. That's a bummer, because you are bound to spend at least $70 per trip (2 adults), and the $25 certs really helped.

Can you use multiple certificates? Like using enough certificates to not have to pay anything?

Mezza is still in it! Restaurant.com error.

    Dear valued customer,

Earlier today you were sent an email indicating that you have an unused gift certificate
from a restaurant that is no longer part of the Restaurant.com program.

This message was sent to you in error. The restaurant is still an active partner in
our program. Please disregard the instructions within the previous email concerning
exchanging your certificate. Your certificate is still valid and available for you to use.

We apologize for any confusion that this may have caused.

If you have any questions, please email us at info@restaurant.com or call 1-800-979-8985.

We thank you for your business and look forward to serving you in the future.

    Best regards,
