I just wanted to see if anyone else has been as intrigued about the show Lost as I have. I can't get enough of the show, and I have been known to cancel all other plans on Wednesdays in order to watch it.

Any thoughts on what is going on in general with the characters? Do you think the plane crash really happened? Was anyone else as ticked off with what happened at the end of this weeks show as I was? Just wanted to start some discussion.

We are hooked too. And I was irritated at the end of last week's show. We will never know that freak's story because they killed him off!!

Looks like "Kate" is finally going to hook up with someone next week. They've been dragging that out forever.

We missed an episode here and there. Did they ever show the creature? Whatever it is out there that tore the pilot to shreds? I was dying to get a visual of that.

No, they have never shown the large 'creature'. I would like to get some answers soon.

And what about the French lady? Are we going to hear from her again any time?

I guess to keep the show interesting for a long run, they have to continue dragging plot lines out, and keeping us guessing. I love it!

I'm a Lost fanatic ... TIVO faithfully catches it for me every week!

I think the crash happened, and they are all now forced to confront their own demons in some kind of purgatory. I think they will ultimately have to choose sides in some kind of good vs evil, battle like in (Stephen King's) The Stand. And Locke is going to be either a major force for evil or good (every episode I change my mind whether he's a good guy or a bad guy!).

yeah def Lost is pretty good... point of trivia: It is the first show produced by Conan O'Brien's production company conanco...

the first episode was pretty fake with the engines still running, etc... but we really like all of the sub-plots and trying to figure out how all of these people are related, etc!

    gotta love tivo!

My co-workers and I also believe that they are in purgatory and that they are all actually dead (in the physical sense). i think what may support this argument is what Locke said early on, to the effect of, the island is what you make of it. And when he said that he looked into the eye of the island (the tall monster) and saw its beauty. I would assume the pilot got killed because he expected a monster that would attack and kill them but Locke did not. Similar to the polar bear on the comic book episode and Boone coming to grips with the fact that he slept with his sister Shannon. Very interesting arcs in the story.

What about the tail section of the plane? those folks could also be alive and next season we could have a whole bunch of new characters.
Who are the "voices" in the woods?
Why is there an electrical cable running from the ocean to the island?

If not purgatory, and if they are still alive, the island is probably some sort of cross between Fantasy Island, the Twilight Zone and Bermuda Triangle.

I just hate that it is on the same time as Smallville.

What about the young boy and his 'gift'? And what is the significance of Clair's baby, and why did the psychic want her to get on the plane, and demand she be the only one to care for her baby?

The gift of killing things, is that what you mean? Hmm, good one. is he a grim reaper? ( have you seen the Showtime show Dead Like Me? .. I digress )

The baby - yeah, the "others" must think that the baby is meaningful -- a virgin soul untarnished by humanity? Is Claire brainwashed?

who knows where they could take that story arc but I think it could probably still have a biblical theme hidden.

If you like LOST, you would do well to watch or record it from WMAR-DT 2.1 Baltimore. In addition to the great 720P HD, WMAR has a DD 5.1 encoder and knows how to use it. HD and DD surround take a great show and make it sublime.............

Unfortunately, our DC affliate, WJLA-DT still has HD and DD growing pains. Point your antennas to Baltimore for best results.

I agree with volvo nut - they all actually died in the plane crash and are in the process of coming to terms (in a weird way) with the lives they have each led.

I also subscribe to the theory that they are in Purgatory. Maybe there's something to do with how they led their lives that has this particular group of people on the island together? For a web site with episode recaps and a great discussion board on the show, check out www.televisionwithoutpity.com.

hopefully it's something cooler than purgatory :) wouldn't that theory mean that everyone on the plane believed in it? What about Sayid, the 2 koreans, etc.?

I think it's time the big guy starts losing some weight too =) they've been there for a while 8)

I read on another forum that the producers have shot down the purgatory idea, but who knows.

My money is on a St. Elsewhere's/Dallas dream sequence of one of the passengers, maybe while the plane taxis to the runway. Locke the super hero.

I doubt the producers would wrap the whole thing up with "it was all a dream ..." Seems a cheap cop-out. Perhaps if the show hadn't been so popular and it ran for only one season, then yeah, I could see that being one way to close it out. But using that to resolve the storyline would royally pi$$ off viewers ... I can only hope that that's not where the whole thing heads.

    volvo_nut - I loved Dead Like Me ... But I heard its now been canceled ... [V]

Peppermint: Oh I know, my facetious statement pointed towards the one ending I hope they are not going with.

I wonder if the producers have/had several "options" to the storyline depending on how many shows ABC purchases.

Did we ever find out how Dr. Jack's father died? Last night brought some new questions up for me. Do you think Sawyer went back to the bar and killed Jack's dad? Why would he not mention seeing him in Australia when they spoke at the end of the show?

I thought it was a great episode last night.

I agree. Last night's was probably one of the best episodes of LOST. I liked the philosophical aspect of the boar and Locke's story of the golden retriever.

Speaking of Locke- it's almost too blatant that they used the philosopher's exact name, but then again- how many people in modern-day America actually know who John Locke was?? I think he brings an amazing perspective into the show that keeps it from being a typical action packed drama (i.e., Alias).

And about Jack's dad- it killed me that Sawyer didn't say anything- he HAS to at some point... Maybe you're right in that Sawyer did kill Jack's dad (hadn't thought of that), but I just don't see it happening that way...

I think Sawyer didn't say anything because:
    A. its a commodity that he can now use (as is his M.O.)
    B. There was more to it than we were told, but I am positive he didn't kill Jack's dad. He only killed the other guy cuz he thought it was the grifter who ruined his life. Whe he found out it wasn't and that he was set up, he was tormented by his actions. "Fauxyer" isn't a killer by nature, just a tormented confidence man.

    I totally agree with this!

I really liked this week's episode, because instead of opening up a whole slew of new mysteries, it actually answered some questions. I was getting tired of every week, squinting at the closing credits and going, wha-huh? :D
