My next door neighbor had a contract with Croppe-Metcalf for regular service. When the guy came out to do their service, I asked him if he could take a look at my A/C for an estimate to replace a hose and for an estimate for a maintenance service-literally it would have taken 3 minutes. He told me I would have to call his company to set up an appointment for him to come back out to look at my A/C. I understand his point, I guess, as he probably had his whole day already scheduled, but he was really NASTY. Needless to say, I never did call his company and took my business elsewhere.

On a side note, we had a great experience with Bowman. We had a leak in our A/C which was dripping water all over the floor in our basement. It was a Sunday afternoon and we called Bowman. The guy diagnosed the problem over the phone and told us how to fix it. Turns out the hose to our condensation pump was blocked. He suggested that we remove the hose, take it outside, then clear the blockage ourselves. It worked perfectly and we never had to have him come out. This was five years ago and I will keep using them as a result of that one guys helpfulness back in the day.

We recently used Cascades Comfort Services to check on an air conditioner that wasn't working properly. The tech was on time (early, actually, but the company called ahead) diagnosed the problem fairly quickly and was out of here in about 45 minutes. He added freon and the A/C works fine now. The tech was polite and solved the problem so I would use them again if I needed something.

Could you tell us how much Cascades Comfort charged for your freon charge?

Just for the record, Bowman's technician was professional and courteous. He asked if we had changed our filters when he returned our call. He made a correct diagnosis quickly and was done in less than 30 min. As long as you do not mind paying $190 for 3 lbs of freon. Mr. Bowman did answer my email concerns promptly although I did not agree. I would probably use someone else next time and ask more questions about price and personnel qualifications. Mr. Bowman claims that all HVAC companies in this area charge the same price. I would like to hear from others to verify if his statement is true.

We paid $50 per pound of freon and $120 for 45 minutes of labor with Cascades Comfort Services.

    mdcrim and others--

We hope you had a great July 4th. Back to Bowman Heating and Air--yes, we agree with your assessment about freon costs. However, we paid the same costs last year. Bowman is a superb HVAC company and well-versed on HVAC systems, etc. Their plumbing business is also great! We used them for our new home several years when we built. Also, we use them for service calls when necessary.

We installed tankless hot water heaters when we built our home several years ago. Great products and services. No, we do not get discounts for recommending their company. Any information on tankless hot water heaters (gas or electric)--PM or search under tankless hot water heater systems under my name "Foodie".

    Good luck--

We have had great luck with Jason from HARTS
family owned business, very friendly, fair & honest
Every time they have come to our house they have
diagnosed a smaller/cheaper problem than we had
    expected.

Does anyone know if the AC units are under warranty? We live in Southern Walk and our upstairs unit just went out. It's not more than three years old.
