claibourne/waxpool taking forever? come on... this is nothing. Plus the light is pretty good to reacting to people waiting or not.

When I heard 'avoiding the lights on claibourne' I just had to shake my head.

Same here, been driving in Ashburn for about 20 years and I know the score. Folks run stop signs and red lights, pull out in front of you, go a little over and way over the speed limit, do their make-up while driving, and talk and tex while driving as well. I've never gotten in an accident because I know the risks associated with those who are our neighbors.

I don't think lowering the speed limit will solve the problem but more speed traps might.

It would appear that VDOT has activated the crossing signals whether anyone is crossing there or not so at a minimum I think it 45-60 seconds before it changes even when cars are no longer there. At least this appears to be my observation.

I haven't noticed any long waits at the traffic lights. I always thought they were pretty quick and responsive when a car pulls up and triggers the sensors.

I'm pretty surprised to see here on this forum that people use Demott to bypass or avoid Claiborne. Why would someone take a small two-lane road with a lower speed limit in a residential neighborhood with higher potential for pedestrians and interfering traffic when they can take a 4-lane divided road with a 45 mph speed limit (i.e. Claiborne)??? I don't get it.

Which probably means their assumption is wrong. Because you are right.. there is little to no reason to use Demott to bypass Claiborne.

In my anecdotal experience when I lived over there was there was a lot of traffic heading up the way to the apartments near the Saul center. But now with Broadlands Blvd well established... should be less reason to go down Demott unless heading to SouthernWalk.

I make the turn from Demott heading north to Waxpool west all the time and yes it's not always a simple wide open situation... but it's a divided road and it's complicated more by the people sitting on the other side of the intersection than it is by the crossing traffic.

i wonder if there are portable speed cameras- set up on different roads randomly, automatic $100 or more fine- THAT would have an impact. hit people in the pocket... i know that any road I have EVER gotten a ticket on, I rarely speed on it a second time.
