So after much research I decided to have the basement floors acid stained. I did not want grout lines, wall to wall carpet, or the expense of installing tile over the concrete floor. Wood was out of the question because of the dogs and maintenance.

We went with Create an Image - http://www.caiconcrete.com/ - and am very happy with the result. They are local (Prince William County I think) and are family owned/operated with the "studio" in their own basement.

It took a day to prep the floors (add on several weekends of cleaning out the basement), a day to stain them (add on another day to get the right color - this is a challenge since the swatch color will react with the lime in the floor and you could end up with rust instead of rich brown with red undertones), a day to seal it (super stinky process, think turpentine smell).

I'll post pics when we can walk on it!

For reference, we paid about $4 a square foot. It came out slightly higher in one area because they had to add a textured skim coat and stain/seal where we moved the rough in plumbing.

The company also does walkways, porches, patios, fountains, etc. - stamp, stain, everything.

Sunnydog, do you know if they will 'repair' concrete driveways? Ours has 'surface crumbling' in some areas and I've been wanting to find out how much it would cost to get fixed.

not ready yet! needs one more coat of stain in an area and one more coat of sealer.
why is it that a 3 day job always ends up being twice as long?!?
