In my on going search for a faster pipe I broke down today and called Adelphia about their service. I was told static IPs were available and each additional IP was over $5 a month! Seems steep but I figure okay... so next question was whould I be able to run servers at my location (mail, http, DNS, etc.) and I was told flat out "NO". So I asked about the business service if that allowed me to run services and again I got a "no!"

So my question to you all if anyone has a static IP that they're paying extra for. Why? Does anyone actually use their static IP? Or are people running servers from home? I know some cable providors block certain inbound ports. Is Adelphia doing this or are they just looking the other way for those who run servers from their home?

Did they really tell you $5? Wow, they changed their prices then. They used to be over $100!

And you are right about the no servers - even on business class lines. I wouldnt bother with a static anyhow, my IP has yet to change since the service was installed a few months ago.

For ports, I know that inbound port 80 is blocked. Telnet and ftp work fine for me.
