there has been a dead cat on demott for over a week, if not two. you see it as you're driving on demott from waxpool heading towards harris teeter. it's right by the turn lane to get into harris teeter. i'm surprised no one has removed this animal. is there someone we can call? thanks!

Is it laying smack dab in the road!? Has anyone moved it into a grassy area?
If not, I will swing by and move it off the road. There really is NO one to call to remove a dead animal except maybe the landscapers. Of course, they will dispose of it at the dump. I would prefer to leave it in a grassy area and let nature (turkey vultures) takes its course - but I think they prefer fresh kill and the Vets will usualy charge a fee to accept a dead cat or dog.

The nice thing about nature is that it will take care of the dead animal. What one does not eat, others will eat.

Placing it in a grassy area is probably the best solution and will provide food to many animals and bacteria....not to mention the flora. :)

it's right on the shoulder. i assumed with all the wildlife in that area that it would be far gone at this point, but it really hasn't been (from what i can tell by driving by), which is why i was asking. i was surprised to still see it there over the weekend. i wouldn't be surprised if it was someone's pet too.

thanks for the quick replies. and ktdid thank you for offering to move it. i don't think my stomach could handle it!

LOL...after two long weeks of warm and cold temps, I don't know if I can stomach it either, but I'll try!

VDOT (703-737-2000) will remove animal carcasses on VDOT roads, but for a small animal we usually call HLS. If it is still there today give me a call at the office 703-729-9714 and I'll have it removed.

I didn't see any dead animals on Demott this morning, but I did see a very large buck (male deer) dart in front of my car about half way between Waxpool and the Harris Teeter. A second later and I would've slammed into it...watch out for deer in that area!
