BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE AND PEOPLE START COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SCHOOLS BEING OVER CROWDED, UNDER FUNDED, AND WORSENING TRAFFIC...

The Envision #Loudoun process has published a draft document for comments. The Transition Area Alliance has been analyzing proposed changes during the development of the document. #growth Residents should stay engaged to give input at the upcoming Public Input workshops. Check out the dates, plan to go and spread the word. Excessive growth is possibly coming....

These changes dramatically impact the nature of the TPA. Complete analysis by neighborhood can be found here. Please participate in the public input sessions, a schedule of which can be found here.

Three things you can count on.

Death, taxes, and sprawl in Loudoun.

It won't stop. It can't stop. We're too close to the center of economic gravity and power concentration. Our housing is too nice. Our schools are too good. Our taxes are just right. There is a metro coming. The area has diversity, a splendid environment for raising families and is a growing magnet for young singles. The area is tolerant, affluent, and vibrant.

Unless Supervisor Myer figures out more Greenway alternatives than extending Shellhorn Rd., we'll see all our new neighbors at 5:00 at the junction of the Dulles Toll Rd and Rt. 28.

Our taxes are just right? A splendid environment? Not for much longer at this pace...

Taxes--I don't hear massive complaints of too many Loudoun taxes. I think all the Data Centers are absorbing the tax burden for schools to a large degree.

I do hear people complain that in Northern Virginia, the taxes we send to Richmond do not come back proportionally to the region. I don't know how I could argue for or against that claim.

But back to taxes, eastern Loudoun, specifically Ashburn, is regressively taxed for transportation. This is evidenced by Greenway Tolls (not distance-based), 66 tolls, DC red light cameras, metro parking fees, affecting people who aren't as financially well-off the hardest. Addressing transportation and quality of life will be very important for the forseeable future.
