we have a townhouse with a small yard at the front. i want to plant few perennials/annuals etc. i am finding it very hard as the soil is so hard. i need some help. i don't want our yard to look bad.

Can someone please recommend me a company/individual who can do such a small project?

    i really appreciate it.

a couple of ideas. First, depending on the size and type of perennial or annual, the hole really does not need to be too big. One shovel should take care of a hole in one or two scoops.

If it is that hard, my guess is that you have a lot of clay in that location (which would not be surprising). You can purchase a product called "clay break" from Home Depot that would help break that up but it takes time.

Another recommendation would be to look on your street for a neighbor with a teenager who wants to make a couple bucks. You get the plants, he digs the holes where you tell him and then you plant - should not take too long.

I think there is a list of teenagers/helpers in the newsletter too that would be worth a few calls. But the job you are talking about does not seem big enough for a professional - and would be too expensive.

And don't forget to fertilize... if you have clay, your plants will need nutrients.
