We were considering spending a few days in late August down in VA Beach. We've never been so we're wondering if anyone could advise us of decent places to stay near the water. Would anyone have a hotel recommendation? Perhaps a place with an indoor pool in case of rain? We have two little girls, 4.5 and 3 - do you think they'd enjoy the trip? What's to do in VA Beach?

We'd appreciate any input. Thanks in advance!

    Here's a good place to start - http://www.vbgov.com/visitors/

My parents live in the Hampton Roads area and I have a sister in Williamsburg so I could help you out in those areas much better. (Busch Gardens, Colonial Williamsburg, etc)

My daughter is 3.5 and earlier this summer while visiting my parents, we took her to the VA Marine Science Museum in VA BEach and she LOVED it - http://www.vmsm.com/index.shtml - they've got lots of hands on things for kids and my favorite thing was watching the otters. (Great rainy day activity!)

The beach itself isn't that great IMO, but like Saras mom said, the science museum is cool (it has an IMAX too.. if you havent seen charlie and the choc factory yet, they have it in IMAX at a few theaters down there) .. norfolk has a bunch of stuff to do as well, like nauticus, etc.

sandbridge is nice, away from the hustle and bustle of the strip, almost like the outer banks without the extra hours of travel =)
