Just curious; anyone else going to be anxiously awaiting the arrival of [strike]Santa Clause[/strike] the UPS delivery truck on Saturday bringing forth a brand new Apple iPad and maybe some related accessories?

I have quite a few plans as to how I'll be using mine; how do you plan to use yours? What accessories have you ordered or plan to get?

I'm saving my money to buy a new Macbook Pro for my daughter when she graduates from high school. After you get some experience with yours, please post a review. I don't see the iPad as a replacement for a notebook or netbook, but more as a new class of content consuming device. I'll be interested in how you actually use it.

Yea, no way I would stand in line at an Apple store that long for anything, unless it was for some very deep discount, etc. I can wait an extra week, or in this case, for the UPS delivery person to come to me instead.

I'm going to try one as a remote for everything.

I have a system based on this web page:

    http://www.arcfn.com/2009/11/controlling-your-stereo-over-web-with.html

Right now I can control the Lutron RadioRa lighting, TV, stereo, surveillance, DVR etc using any computer in the house. The thing I like about this is any device I can figure out the IR code and get it programmed in.

I considered a universal remote (like the harmony) and determined from reviews that it would not control everything. Also considered Control4 but it always seemed their system was not quite mature from reading their support forums, among other issues.

Tried an Ipod touch but the screen is not big enough. Nor do I know enough about programming to have say only 6 buttons fill the screen, without always zooming in etc. So maybe this will be the answer (but I'm not waiting in line for one).

Mike, a guy I worked with while I was on my Philly gig over the past year was going to do exactly that. I'll send him a quick email and ask him what App he was going to use and report back; He showed me some screenshots and it looked very cool and I think it would have the functionality that you're describing.

I love my Harmony remote! The model I have requires line of sight, though. But I don't control NEARLY as many things with it as you plan on with the iPad!

IR is so antiquated, wish they would let it die and create/use a good standardized rf solution =)

I think all the Apple fans would someday like to be like "the Borg"..no more external devices, just your whole body plugged in:)
