I was looking at two ashburn daycares and wanted to hear opinions and experiences other's have had with these two centers.

Does anyone have experience with either Winwood (located on Hay) or Chesterbrook Academy? Good and bad reviews are welcomed.

    Thanks!

We've had our son at Winwood for almost 2 years (he's 3). We LOVE it! They have three cameras in each room and 1 outside, and you can see your child wherever you have internet access. In my son's class they have music and spanish teachers that come every week, and they just started a weekly sign language teacher this week. The teachers are wonderful. In my son's class they have had 3 of the 4 teachers the whole time he's been there. I've heard there is a bit of a higher turnover in the next class he'll be in.

We have been very happy with the daycare. I had my son in a different daycare in Ashburn before this, and the difference is night and day. My son is at day care for almost 10 hours a day, and never wants to leave when we go pick him up. I hope this information helps.

We've used Winwood for over 2 years and we love it. I love the webcam access. The teachers and staff are warm and caring. The class is very structured. The academic program is great. Our child is learning a lot from here.

Thank you to the previous posters. I am looking at the infant room for my 11 month old son.

I'm interested in more responses if anyone has experience with these two daycares.

    Thanks!

Forgot to mention that Winwood has a long wait list, hopefully you are already on the list.

Had our daughter at Winwood in the infant room (after waiting months). Teachers would sit her on a mat and forget about her. Teachers and management very unresponsive. We were constantly told we actually want to be in a home daycare (which we didn't). Moved her to Kindercare and couldn't be happier there. Would never recommend Winwood. We were told it was good because it had a wait list, we didn't find this to be the case.

Is it just me, or does every place around our area have a waitlist? I had no idea I was supposed to get on one before getting pregnant!! With a baby due in the fall, I'm beginning to panic.
Anyone have any luck with a place that actually has openings??

    Thanks!

You might try Beantree if you have the $- it's so expensive that the wait is less, I think. A friend is there and LOVES it, but is only there til she can get in to Winwood. I was impressed with Winwood when I toured it, and I put our name on the list recently. Put a deposit down at Chesterbrook last summer and was told they'd have an opening in December... haven't heard a thing from them since. Have half a mind to call them and ask for my deposit back.

We're at Children's World now, infant room. Head teacher is awesome, but the center as a whole... still not sure about.

We've been very happy with Chesterbrook since we started there in spring 2002. There is a lot of affection and patience on the part of the teachers, and they get lots of hugs from the kids on their way home. I can't speak about the infant rooms though. We started in 3's and preK and are now in preK and schoolage. There's a lot of learning - music, languages, letters, numbers, cultures, science, and extras like Kidzart, Stretch n Gro, special visits by children's entertainers. The academics are included as a fun part of the preschoolers' day along with plenty of playtime, not pushed or over-emphasized. The teachers are a treasure - each classroom we've been in has had a teacher who genuinely loves and understands our child's personality, strengths and challenges. The admin folks are friendly and flexible.

I found that there was a waitlist (all at least one year) everywhere except BrainTree Learning. I enrolled our kids there and they will be starting in August. I was very impressed when I went in for the tour. It's pricey, but, it's not your average daycare either. It's more like the name says. It's a Learning center! Good luck!

Our daughter went to chesterbrook Ashburn. We wanted to withdraw our daughter. We told the secretary that we wanted to withdraw in a week. The secretary explained that they need two week written notice. Unaware of that, we decided to keep our daughter an additional week to fulfil the requirement. We told her our intended last date and the following day left a written letter for her attention. On last day the Principal stopped us and said she never received any written communication from us and that we have to pay for an additional 2 weeks. We were shocked at that and to our disbilief the secretary acted as if she was unaware of all this and told that she never received the letter we left for her. She kept quite in order to cover herself since she messed up in communicating the facts to principal. What bothered us is they did not accept any miscommunication on their part and ignored all our pleas and explanations. They forced us to pay additional 2 weeks fee. Beware of the unprofessional and dishonest people managing this facility.

We have been with Chesterbrook Acadamy since June. I have both of my boys going there full time. We have been happy since they started. It seems to be well run, and the teachers are very friendly. Our oldest had an issue with adjustment in the beginning since he transfered there from a home daycare environment, and they were very understanding with that and worked with us to get him on track. At the moment, he is very happy ( like his younger brother) and loves going there.

Both our kids go to Winwood - our oldest is three and absolutely loves it. The teachers are great and, most critically, the director is excellent. The prices are reasonable for the quality of care we receive. Our family appreciates the online webcams to check in on the kids during the day. The only problem we've had has been with the infant room. Our second daughter started in August, just after they'd lost all four teachers. They've gone through some difficulties finding a good stable lineup for the room. It's also poorly configured for an infant - they can't physically separate the crawlers & walkers from the infants. That said, we have a high degree of faith in the director and are sticking it out. All the other rooms are tremendous.

We have our 2 year old in Chesterbrook. We've gone from the 1 year old room and are now in the 2 year old room and he throughly enjoys it there. The teachers in both rooms are wonderful. They give detailed write ups on what the kids have done that day and any issues they’ve had.

Like a previous poster had mentioned it is the front office staff that isn’t as welcoming. They were very nice when we went to check it out, but ever since then they have not been as ‘nice’ (for lack of a better word). Often times they just seem overwhelmed or just plain unhappy to be there. It’s odd, my husband and I have talked about it before and with the daycare we previously had our child in the front staff we always VERY courteous. It took some getting used to, but all in all I would recommend them. You are going to have minor issues anywhere you go.
