OVER RATED and not much fun! ;)

Come on people, it is simple and will never go away. There will always be good teens and there will always be a few bad teens. Unfortunately, the few bad teens give MOST teens a bad rep.

As for some of the crap going on, punish accordingly for the vandalism and petty crimes. For the EXTREMELY minor stuff (e.g. ring and run), don't sweat it! When homeowners react and try to make a big deal about it, certain teens will just excalate the occurrances. Ignore them and they will most likely go away.

And for those of you without children, it is EASY to be parent when you do not have any!

Public punishment is good. It should be used more. Lets start with BAD DRIVERS.

Bad Teens usually [not always] are due to BAD PARENTS

I've met great kids in the area but the ones causing trouble here don't know how good they have it here.

    Niceguy1229,

This forum is open to everyone, not just residents. Your presence in the community or not does not give you the right to defame or attack other members of the forum - resident or not. That includes abiding by the rules on language and personal attacks. For those who can't find them, the rules are here:

    http://www.broadlandshoa.org/hoaforum/showthread.php?t=121

As for the topic, which is better? Posting incidents of valdalism in the community or starting new threads to just complain about people voicing their problems with others? If you don't want people to complain, you could help stop the problem to start with.

May sound petty to you, but doesn't make it right or reasonable for others (any age) to vandalize or disturb the privacy of other residents. If you want to get your high from playing dirty.. go destroy or bother your own house, not someone else's.

There were a string of incidents (eggings of homes & cars, Christmas decorations vandalized, etc...) that occured earlier in the week in Brambleton. Sorry niceguy, it wasn't a roving group of 35 year olds, it was teenagers.

Thanks to multiple postings, including descriptions and pictures, on both the "official" Brambleton board and the Brambletonian, the offending kids were caught.

An interesting aspect of that Roll Tide is.. isn't the brambleton site limited to residents only? Wonder if restricted registrations would make it more comfortable for people to post incriminating information. Less chance of 'sock puppet' accounts and lurkers using the info against those who posted it.

I know Brambletonian is not limited to residents. I live here in Broadlands but was able to register over there.

Ring & Run/Ditch & Ding, whatever you want to call it isn't that minor to us.

I have two small kids and a loud dog. When someone rings the doorbell (as just happened here a couple of minutes ago), the dog starts barking. He is *very* loud and one of things that starts him barking is the doorbell.

When the dog starts barking, the kids wake up. We had just spent an hour getting my kindergartener to sleep who has major sleep issues. We've had sleep studies done on her over at Georgetown University Hospital and it really is a serious issue. Now she's wide awake again and won't go to sleep for another hour which means we're in for a pretty miserable day tomorrow with an overtired kid who is still going to be up at 6:30 in the morning as usual.

All the yelling from the first kid (plus the dog barking) then set off the baby who will probably be back to sleep soon but she also doesn't do well with interrupted sleep. Almost no one does.

It's no big deal for me to go answer the door but it is a big deal when bored teenagers/preteens/whathaveyou are hurting my kids.

Besides, why would anyone be out there in this nasty rainy weather doing this? And again, where the heck are the parents?

The official site there is residents only and run by the HOA. Brambletonian is run by residents who became sick and tired of the mindless blather on the official site. Sure, the Brambletonian has some morons (or as they are called on the Brambletonian, "mornons", but that's a long & funny story) obsessed w/sex and bodily functions, but it is actually much more useful than TOB (the other board).

Although TOB had some of the vandalism reports, the Brambletonian post had more info and a picture of the perps. The picture was removed once they were charged by the Sheriff's dept.

If anything, this forum reminds me of a cross between the two Brambleton boards. The mods have been known to ban trolls and delete posts that are malicious towards other posters. The latter has only happened a few times. They can REALLY get into it, especially about politics (Barbara would be all kinds of blasted).

That's not really the case with the official board. In the past, there was some censorship of the official board. That's stopped for the most part but posts are still sometimes "cleaned up."

Niceguy1229 does raise a good point. There are a lot of good kids and teenagers in the Broadlands, just like there are in neighborhoods all across America and the rest of the world. For instance, all of neighbors' kids on our street are amazing -- polite, coherent, all the good attributes.

However, there are surely bad apples. Homer is right about his comment linking bad parents and bad kids. It is simply the parents' fault for not keeping them in line. We should not blame the kids, just the adults that they belong to.

and to partially connect back to earlier discussions in this thread, I wanted to add more reports to christmas lights having been cut or pulled apart. I had a string cut the other night.

This just sucks and is really unfortunate... and I tell ya, one more time and my lights go into storage permanently... really sad.

Has anyone witnessed the drag racing that regularly occurs on Claiborne? A few times each month, we'll watch cars sit atop the hill at the intersection with Crosin, then do 80 to (and sometimes through) the Ridgeway stopsign. I've even witnessed them driving SUVs on the grass down the hill. My deck overlooks the intersection, so I get a pretty good birdseye view.

I don't think all teenagers are drag racing nativity scene defilers, but I'd be willing to bet that the culprits are under 21. I've been told by neighbors that this has gone on for quite awhile. Has the community considered putting in speed bumps? I know it's a dirty word, but it's impractical to have police patroling Southern Walk.

Oh, well in that case, we should just ignore it, it is a time honored tradition, all in good fun. who cares if some teen wrecks a car or hits a resident walking their dog and kills them. while we're at it, we can run a spray paint can drive, and give them to all the teens! after all, grafitti has been around forever too. just kids being kids. i'll be in front of home depot with a donation box this weekend if anyone wants to contribute to our sad and bored teen population.

Yes - we are on a corner lot (backing up to Claiborne) and the HOA informs the Sheriff's office during their meetings.

We call the non-emergency number and report the drag racing. We provide a discription of the car (make/model & color) and any partial plate info.

    Loudoun County Sheriff's Non-Emergency #s are:
    703-777-0445
    703-777-0407
    703-777-1021

    Hope that helps

Just to let you know ... it may not be kids. We had a few strings setup on our back deck one Christmas, and they got 'cut', turns out the red bulbs were missing. We think that squirrels were chewing through the 'vine' to get to the 'fruit'.

yea, I had not considered animal activity, but this string was on our cherry tree, about 2 feet off the ground where it was "cut". Of course I do not know for sure, and also thought it strange - why cut one, why stop there and not cut more?

Wouldn’t it be easy enough to distinguish gnaw marks from a wire cutter or scissor cut? You can also look for BBQ squirrel dogs in your lawn…
