or- also known as- birds in the dryer vent! need a recommendation to get large birds' nest removed and vent covers installed on 3 of our vents. we received a quote from our pest control service, but it's higher than we think it should cost. (don't ask the quote- I don't wanna give too much info!)

but i'd love to hear other options to have this service professionally taken care of... thanks neighbors!

A co-workers who lives over on Cloverleaf (Cloverfield? Cloverdome? Cloverhoney - dunno) paid $100 for the 1st vent and $60 for each additional vent for an "inner mesh" berrier then $300 total for outer cages.

However, if you have a ladder (or a buddy with a ladder) Home Despot carries $20 kits (one per vent ) that has all you need.

    hmm-
    $20 kit
$500 insurance deductible for the surgery on whatever hubby breaks falling off the ladder
$200 in uncovered expenses on any splints and/or physical therapy items
$300 to get the job done professionally 4 months later...

Home Depot sounds like the MOST expensive option! lol

I had this done for all of my vents as birds infested them. That itself was not much of a problem, except when the nests were abandoned, they left bird mites behind! Nasty creatures. They do not transmit diseases to humans, but they do chew and some types (chicken mites) can live as long as 8 1/2 months without bird blood meal!

I paid considerably more than the above figure to have this done (and done well), and I am pleased with it. My understanding is that any ladder work requires two persons and a pretty hefty liability coverage, hence the high cost.
