Check me if I'm wrong, but I believe the owner of San Vito's is a SICILIAN immigrant. If that doesn't make it authentic Italian I don't know what does. San Vito's is our go-to pizza in the area. More authentic Italian-style than New York-style. Great sauce.
No gyros, if that helps you...

our problem with San Vito is not the food- it's the service. when we went it was all kids- none of whom had a shred of experience or customer service savvy. the host who sat us actually told us that the servers "were lazy tonight" and our service would be slow. we should have left RIGHT then, but it was already after 8pm so we stuck it out. that was just the start of what turned out to be a lousy experience from start to finish.

True ... except I never see him cooking there !! And I agree with redon1, it was always a problem with the service, except for one kid, who was great, but he didn't last there long.

Giovanni's in Leesburg...good Italian food, good pizza...was my saving grace for pizza when we moved down from NY in 98....good gnocchi and meatballs too, not as good as my Gramma's though, lol...Buon Appetito in Chantilly has good pizza and wedges as well...(subs...) Cantina di Italia in Herndon has good Italian as well....other than that, I wait until I go back home to my Aunt's for some good Italian food...

I've seen him cooking there many times, but thats a moot point. It's about the recipes he has...you can hire any jamook and they can follow a recipe and it will come out tasting just as good. I'll put up with horrible service as long as the food is good (think soup nazi or the magnolia bakery in NYC...both noted for good food but horrible service and ppl consider it a privilege to stand in line at those places).

Honestly, I don't see what people see in the Original Steakhouse. The meat is ok, but the sides are awful. And for a bar, it has no bar food [aka appetizers]. And for a price near sweetwaters, I take sweetwater any day. For steaks tho, Flemings is my fav, b/c the atmosphere isnt as stuffy as mortons.

We've never had service issues at Vito's. But we usually go on off-times.

Want great Itailian? Try Bonarotti's in Vienna off of 123. Run by Itailians and I swear i was in there once when an older Itailian gent with a younger blond wearing fur took a table in the back [facing the entrance]. Spoke with the owner in Itailian. That means good food in any language, lol. Mobsters always eat at the best places.

If you're in Kearny, NJ, you should try Satriale's. :)

Elizabeth NJ ... Spirito's for great pizza .. I grew up on that !! Used to be a great place to get a bowl of spaghetti & meatballs for under $8.00.
