These birds were visiting this afternoon, and I am wondering what they are. I don't know much about birds, and am too lazy to figure it out on my own. :)

Sorry about the photo quality; it was getting dark and through a window.

Guess I should have been able to figure that out myself. I've just never seen them on a deck. Thanks!!

These guys LOVE safflower seed...so if you want to keep them around, just put some out.

Mourning doves make a sound a lot like an owl - I thought I had an owl once that turned out to be doves.

owl... what I would love to see again is the Screetch owl that was around about 2 years ago... that was awesome. Sounded like someone was driving the car over a cat, like for 30 minutes straight!!!! (sarcasm off)

Sure it wasn't a cat bird? They screech in a similar way.

no, I am pretty familiar with the 2 and a cat bird, while pretty "screetchy" in its own sense, has nothing on the Screetch Owl. That noise will stop you dead in your tracks, and is much louder and can be heard from pretty far away. It is a noise you are not quick to forget...

after double checking I realized that I got 2 owls mixed up and the one that I heard was a type of Barn Owl... and if you really want to hear this, be my guess. It is where the term Banshee is applicable. And imagine this at night, sitting on the deck and hearing this from the trees out of nowhere.... I was ready to call the cops! I thought someone was being attacked. No I did have about 10 beers at that point but that is another story...
