The new attendance boundaries are now posted on the LCPS web site: http://cmsweb1.loudoun.k12.va.us/509905169119/site/default.asp?509Nav=|924|&NodeID=924

If I am reading the maps correctly, it appears we are looking at the same situation as when the school board wanted to draw new boundaries for ER. Farmwell Hunt stays at Mill Run and the Courtyard section of SW moves to Cedar Lane. Of the four plans proposed, 2 plans --plan #350 takes out the Courtyards and keeps FW Hunt in. Plan #352 takes the Courtyards out of Mill Run as well as FW Hunt.

Are you sure you're reading those maps correctly? I thought the Courtyards were DN44, which is included within the Mill Run boundaries on each of those 4 posted plans.

Good to hear that DN44 is the Courtyards and stays with the rest of Broadlands! I apologize for the mistake. By the way, does anyone know if Farmwell Hunt is staying at ER or going to a different middle school?

I don't see the plans posted. I see where it says the plans will be posted today. Am I missing something?

I saw them posted earlier today around 10:30am in the location that now says "Plans will be posted later today." There were four plans. Just to be sure I wasn't seeing things, I called the LCPS Office of Planning and Legislative Services and they told me they removed the plans because they are updating some projection numbers and they hope to have the plans back on line in a few hours. I called around 2pm.

Does anyone know if it makes sense to go to both the meeting tonight at Legacy and the meeting next Monday at Mill Run? (Or will they cover the same info?)

Both meetings are the same, so there's no reason to attend both. Be sure to attend at least one to make your opinion known.
A point to remember: During the Middle School boundary process last year, every single staff proposed and resident proposed plan left all of Broadlands at Eagle Ridge. Then, the final "staff recommended" plan moved part of Broadlands out.

I would suggest you go to the school now, and give them your information. Take your HUD-1 form if you've just moved in. You'll need proof of address. Make sure they know you have a rising kidergartner. They will send you a registration packet in February or March sometime.

Here's some new information: Creighton's Corner won't be opening next year. See this Leesburg Today article for more.

At this point, the School Board is deciding how to deal with the boundary process that's already begun, given that one of the two schools will now be delayed at least a year.

They will still plan the boundaries for Creighton's Corner. They will then either house them within Rosa Lee or put them in Stone Hill Middle School for the year.

    Cliff,
Is it possible that some of the kids potentially slated for Creighton's Corner might still go to Legacy?

The boundaries for all the schools have NOT been determined yet. The school staff will propose a recommended boundary on Nov. 14, followed by more public input, then a final decision will be reached. See the LCPS website for all the exact dates.

    Cliff,
I live in Brambleton and know that the boundaries have not been proposed to the school board yet. Some residents here received an email from Mr. Dupree that said Creighton's Corner would be delayed and that the boundaries would still be drawn this year; however, the email did not mention housing Creighton's students at Rosa Lee Carter or Stone Hill. I was just curious where you'd heard about that possibility.

From conversations I've had with staff and School Board members and comments I've seen in print from School Board members.

    Folks:

To clarify, the School Board has unanimously decided to reject all bids for Creightons' Corner (they were all over budget) and re-bid the project with a much longer timeline for construction in order to achieve the savings needed to bring it under budget. No decision has been made about anything else.

We will definitely decide the attendance zones for Rosa Lee Carter over the next six weeks, and staff will make their recommendation on November 12th. However, staff is evaluating whether to even make a boundary recommendation for Creightons' Corner on November 12th that would not take effect until that school opens in fall of 2008, or whether they will recommend deferring any decision on what areas might switch from Legacy to Creightons' Corner until next fall when more contemporary enrollment data is available and, possibly, planning zones reevaluated - if this second option is proposed and agreed to be the board, no decisions will be made on who might attend Creightons' Corner until next fall, again to take effect in the fall of 2008 when it opens.

As always, if you have a question, please email me at rfdupree@aol.com and I'll be happy to get back to you as soon as I can. I appreciate your input and would welcome the opportunity to answer any questions (or address any rumors).

CORRECTED DATE - Staff will make their recommendation on November 14th, not November 12th. Sorry about that.

This may be a little late in the game, but did anyone notice the new boundary proposal for Mill Run? It appears we will again be starting the 2007 school year with nearly 1,000 students. Yet again, other neighborhoods that were not on the original boundary proposal lobbied hard to keep their kids at Mill Run and now they are on the proposal up before the School Board for approval. Is it me or does the LCPS have something against the Broadlands? I mean just last year they tried to carve up our neighborhood to keep some of us out of Eagle Ridge so they could bus other neighborhoods in. hmmm....

    Brosowalk,

I seriously doubt LCPS has anything conspiratorial against the Broadlands. I just think it's an extremely heated and difficult topic. My experience, everyone is treated the same. Everyone doesn't agree with the decisions, but at the end of the day, everyone seems to be equally dissatisfied. There never is a winning situation for everyone.

I finally took some time and looked over the proposed staff recommendation. The recommendation is to open up Rosa Lee Carter with 595 students next year. The boundaries for Mill Run do not change from this year under the recommendation. All of Rosa Lee Carter's students come from what is now within Legacy's boundaries. There are going to be two more schools nearby opening next year (Creighton's Corner and LV Estates), that are both closer to Legacy. So, my opinion is, we have even less chance of moving Mill Run boundaries next year. I am going to send this to the board as well, but I would recommend moving DN22 (0 projected students through 2012), DN23 (5 projected students next year, 220 by 2012), and DN 24 (143 projected students next year, 167 by 2012) to Rosa Lee Carter. This would change Mill Run to have 798 projected students next year. Mill Run's official capacity is 822. Any thoughts?
