    Hi

Having had access to the pools for a couple of years, I have to say that I have been waiting (excitedly) for the pools to open for the season, but was a little disappointed this year that there seemed to be a few teething issues already that still don't seem to have been resolved (although I am sure they are being worked on).

At the southern walk pool I am loving the addition of the tables etc but its disappointing that there is still not tarpaulin over the baby area (a much needed area for shade) and that the baby pool filter/sump wasn't working the first day.
At the pool on Dermott, the fountains are not working (i recall this same issue last year) and the baby pool is a little dirty.

Does anyone know when these may be fixed? or if there is anything we can do to help resolve it? The weather has made this a great start to the season, and i am looking forward to the many weeks I will be spending at the pool.....just hope these issues (especially shading) are resolved soon.:)

I don't think it was that the fountains weren't working, but it was that the pool water was cold as it was. The fountains drastically lower the water temperature. I could be wrong, however. We were quite glad when we went that they were off.

Is there any special permission needed to have a birthday party at the Summerbrooke pool? Has anyone done this before? Any advice?

Please call the HOA office. The pool cannot be reserved, but we try to keep track to be sure there are not too many groups coming in at once. Any of your guests who are not Broadlands residents will need to have a guest pass.

This is a general question - Maureen perhaps you can answer.

Due to children's ages we frequent the fountain pool on Demott more than the others. However, I recall last year that even in August the pool was very cold most of the time. It's frustrating to have little kids (who are usually not that picky) not want to swim b/c the water is too cold (even when it's HOT outside).

So, my question is...is there a temperature that can be established that warrants leaving the fountains off? I've noticed the pool gets MUCH warmer when they are off. I know that is part of the fun of the pool, but if it's only 77-80 degrees outside the water is too cold to have the fountains running. Today was pretty warm but the pool was so cold that my 4 yr old was shivering w/ blue lips after vigorous swimming. I've heard other parents complaining about the same issue so I know it's not just my little guy.

Thanks for your thoughts/guidance on this issue.

Wish there was, when those fountains are on that pool gets super cold. When our kids were younger several times we took them to southern walk instead of Demott, even though they couldn't quite swim yet, just because of the huge temperature difference.

Are all the fountains on the same pump?

Thank you for bringing this up. We experience the same problem, and my kids would rather go into the baby pool since it's considerably warmer. Last weekend, the sprinklers were turned off, and we noticed the temperature of the water was perfectly cool.

I second the motion....I hate coooooold water and I've noticed that more kids are into warmer water than cold water. In fact, some of the professional swim centers (that teach swimming to kids such as the Carlile Center) keep their water a bit warmer than colder so that the kids can be more comfortable in the water and not be wanting to get out because they are cold...

It would be nice for the swimming mangement co/HOA Center to look into this more for the kids comfort....

The swim centers' pools are heated...ours are not. The pool temperature is dependant on the outside temperature, the amount of sunlight and the amount of recent rainfall. The fountains do make a bit a difference if the air temperature is cool, but not much when it is hot. Generally, when the fountains are turned off, we get complaints from pool goers whose children enjoy this special feature. Please remember this is still relatively early in the season. It is not at all unusual for pool temps to be rather cool until July and even then, it is Mother Nature and not the HOA who controls the pool water temperature.

I have to disagree about the warmer air not impacting the pool temperature so much. It in fact greatly impacts it, even when the air is hot. Its basically acting as a type of swamp cooler, the water gets chilled as it passes through the air. Plus the pool water is circulated more. Go ahead and check when it gets really hot this summer, check the temperature at Demott and then Southern Walk. The difference is staggering. Personally as a techie guy, I'd love to see the HOA look into putting in a clean energy pool solar water heater.

How things have changed since I was a kid....it didn't matter what the water temperature was.....I'd jump right in the pool and love every minute of it. My mom had to bribe me to get out, of course I was blue, but had a blast. I still prefer cold water....on a hot summer day, there's nothing better to cool you off. :)

If the fountains have little to do with it, why is Southern walk and the community pool much warmer on any given day than Demott? Sorry but I'm blaming the fountains! At the beginning of this season when they were off it was much warmer...did I mention quieter too. :) I'm not a fountain hater, I promise...it is super fun but just wish it didn't impact the temperature so much.
