Tsk tsk John, you should not attack the poster, attack the post!

Oh, and if growing up means I have to feign indignation at a harmless post, I'll pass.

Get over yourself Mr. Serious Pants.

My thoughts exactly. I have been going to the pool for 5 years now, and even when the temperatures are in the high 90's for weeks on end, the water temperature is still freezing. Some kids may not mind the frigid water, but mine do, and so do I. I have heard many others complaining that it's too cold, as well.

I'm not a fountain hater, either, but honestly, when they were off for those few days, the water was definitely more comfortable. Whatever the answer is, I think most people would agree that warmer water would be greatly appreciated.

Fountains do affect pool temps. By spraying the water into the air some of it will evaporate, drawing heat out of the rest of the water and thus cooling it down. I also think that the additional pumps, with the pipes in the cooler underground, circulate the water more frequently.

Now wait a sec, when I was a youngster the lifeguards constantly threatened us with tales of a mysterious solution that would change bright colors and expose the culprit. You mean to tell me that was all false? :conf2:

If so, don't tell my youngsters..lol.

I contacted Nature Center office last year about Birthday Party at Summerbrook pool. you have to inform them the party date. however, the tables will be first come first serve.. you have to buy the guests pass before the party.

Just returned from the pool with friends visiting from out of town. All of the sprinklers were on, and the water was so cold that the kids decided to play on the blazing hot playground instead. They couldn't believe how cold the pool water was.

Do the fountains get turned off at night? I would think that leaving them on at night would have a dramatic effect on the temperature.

I'm no expert, but I don't think the fountains make a significant difference. I went to several pools (all in the same week and all the same size), including the fouintain pool and they were all cold. Only our had fountains.

I've also visted the fountain pool after a heat wave and the water was very warm (almost too warm).

I've heard that injecting air into the water will cool the water faster than injecting water into the air. For example, turning on the "air" feature on a hot tub (the bubbles) cools the water faster than a fountain injecting water into the air. Not sure if that is true.

Either way, I don't think the fountain has anything to do with the cold water.

Someone mentioned last year on this forum that the rate of evaporation and refill (with cold water) has something to do with it. That makes complete sense to me, becuase the fountain pool is shallow and will evaporate faster than the southern walk pool.

My vote is to keep the fountains running. The kids love to play in them. Don't worry folks, the water will warm when the temps go up. Of course, then you will complain that the water is too warm. Sigh.

The fountains will cause more evaporation - making the pool need to add more water more frequently.. water from the cold tap.

Water hitting you as a mist from the fountains will also feel more cold then water you are immersed in.

We were at the kids' pool this weekend and got there before the sprinklers were turned on. I can tell you that, about 10 minutes after they were turned on, the water in that area of the pool became significantly cooler than when we first got in. Since that was the only thing that changed, I really think it must have been the fountains. We don't mind the cooler water, but I thought I'd throw my experience out there.

Sounds like a job for the mythbusters! What really causes the temperature swings in our pools? :)

Maybe the HOA could call this show and invite them to come to Broadlands!! Love that show! Put the theories to rest for once and for all. ;)

I have to say I am extremely disappointed in the procedure to acquire pool passes. It can only be done within normal working hours, there is no way around it.

I have a job that I absolutely cannot leave early or go in late. It's highly looked down upon just to go to a doctor's appointment. I realize that this is not a good job, but that's what I have right now at this stage of my life and I am lucky to have it.

So my poor 4-year-old daughter, who passes the pool twice a day, begging me to go, can't do so, simply because the association refuses to issue passes by mail. For goodness sake, you can get a PASSPORT issued through the mail, and you can't do the same for a pool pass? This is beyond ridiculous. I'm fuming.

Since moving to Broadlands last October, we have been eagerly awaiting the summer when we could walk to our neighborhood pool and have a blast. It sure does look fun. Guess I should just cross that off my list and hope my daughter gets invited to a lot of pool parties.

Pool passes were available on the weekends for several weeks before the season started. This was announced on the message signs, here, and in the newsletter. The office does this every season for the exact condition you describe. But they can't do it all season long.

It can't be done via mail I guess because you have to get your picture taken with the printer configuration for the cards.. we don't have the resources that the US State Department has :)

Well I guess my daughter will have to wait for next year then. Wish I had bothered to read the newsletter as she's the one who has to suffer.

I'm sorry you're feeling so frustrated. The Nature Center had weekend days where residents could come in and get pool passes made. This started the first week of April and ran through the month of May. I assume you also work on weekends and couldn't make those days?

The HOA can't produce passes by mail because we need to validate that the person applying is indeed a resident and the equipment we use limits us to only be able to use pictures we take with our setup to be applied to the pool passes.

Could we have some sort of validation process done though the mail? Probably. Could we staff the Nature Center on weekends throughout the summer or after-hours to issue pool passes? Probably. Could we accept emailed or mailed pictures for use on the pool passes? Probably. Do we have the money to do some or all these things? Probably not. Would most of the residents be willing to pay for all these extra services via their dues? Probably not.

Keep in mind that once you have pool passes, you don't need to renew them every year. My family still uses our original pool passes we got a few years ago. So this is a 'one time' inconvenience...

I'm sorry the process doesn't meet your expectations. As you stated, your job situation is unique. The added weekend days we had in April and May were put into place for some of the very reasons you posted. I don't know what else the HOA could do at this point other than ask that you try and leave work an hour early one day or something. I know it's probably not feasible in your situation, but I don't know what else to tell you...
