I wonder what the world would look like today if we had non-compete clauses during the industrial revolution.

And those of us who moved to Ashburn in the mid to late '90s wished we had the selection you do today.

Guess you have to pay for all the conveniences and amenities. Not sure it is worth as much as homes sell for around here but a normal appreciation is always good. Higher home prices but greater access to conveniences, amenities, good schools, libraries, recreation, etc...
One friend told us when they first moved to their home in Ashburn Farm 10+ years ago they had to drive all the way to the old Safeway in Leesburg to get groceries. I was amazed by that! Sounds like a pain. Of course, (even though not as much as 2 years ago in peak), they still do have a nice amount of equity in their home now but with single income and the same job/salary and 3 college bound kids on the horizon they say they still cannot afford to upgrade to a newer/larger home around here.
I guess it is all relative. Sorry I guess this was a little off topic of this subject. On a roll I guess -

On topic - I do hope the stores in the Broadlands Plaza prosper. There are quite a few good ones there though I do wonder how many customers that Cingular really gets (seems so big?) and also that cute Morning Glory shop. Hope they will be ok.
I keep hoping a Trader Joes will come to the empty pad between the bank and Mexican place. Wishful thinking maybe.

Never happen. Not as long as Safeway is there.

But I really like paying outrageous prices for out-of-date food products! If Safeway leaves, who will fill that role? ;)

So, you are going to defend Safeway and the administration. That is going WAY too far!

I'm not so sure ... I'm currently working at a Trader Joe's in Pittsburgh directly across from a supermarket owned by the 'Giant Eagle' chain (no affiliation with Giant from Landover).

However, TJ's will not place a store unless the research shows that it will have the business. My store is the first store in Pittsburgh. When we opened, we heard from at least 200 people that once a month they drove 3 hours to one of the TJ's in Cleveland to load up with TJ's unique foods. They still head up there as we're not allowed to sell beer & wine in PA. They love that '3 Buck Chuck' !! (its still '2 Buck Chuck' in California).

My advice, take the 20 minute trip to Reston on a regular basis, let the staff there know that you're from Loudoun County, and visit the website at www.traderjoes.com and let them know that you'd like one in the county.

If they do decide upon putting one in Loudoun, I would suspect they'll put it in a central area of the county which may be around Leesburg.

A good spot for Trader Joe's would be in the Moorefield Station shopping Center off of Loudoun County Parkway (http://www.streetsense.com/projects/moorefield/moorefield.html). The location to the left of the Target looks like a perfect spot for a smaller, speciality grocery like Trader Joes or even Whole Foods. It would not directly compete with Target (although there would be some overlap), would be in a good location and would do well also getting local Verzion/AOL/etc. workers there to shop during the day. I work downtown near a Whole Foods and it's amazing how many people in my department go there to do grocery shopping during lunch.

Would be great if Trader Joes would come here. I suspect someday in the near future? That would be a good location (Moorefield).

As for the Target at Moorefield Station, is it under construction and/or still slated to be built? Isn't it a little strange that it will be only about a mile from the Target next to Wegmanns?

Don't get me wrong I am excited to have Target......I love the place but just am amazed that 2 will be so close to one another.

To support Neil's advice about getting a Trader Joe's nearby: under the "Contact Us" section of the Trader Joe's website, there's a "Location Request" option. All that's required is your name, e-mail address, and city & state for the requested location. Comments are optional. If only we could get every household in Broadlands to do this (riiiiiight)...

Believe it or not there is a third target to be built on this side of 50 from South Riding.

I agree with you that there are many choices. The problem, to me, is that each developer just doesn't care how the tenants will survive as long as they get their rents paid. Most of these tenants sign their leases at the same time (based on the time line of the projects), they then have little ideas of the competition they get themselves into. I guess my point is only the best ones will survive. So let's show support to those you want to see in the next 5 years.
