    Hello All,

My GE Profile built in microwave is working great, except it does not heat the food. I mean light on, fan on, tray moves but no heat. Anyone had the same problem and no how to fix it?

    Thanks,
    Steve

Sounds like your magnetron either failed or died. You could try and see if you can buy one from a parts supplier, but might be easier and maybe even cheaper to just buy a new oven...

That is what happened to ours (GE profile) last summer. We ended up with just purchaing a new one. Its another story that a new microwave traggered a "upgrade other kitchen appliances so they all match" wave.

We had the magnetron replaced on our GE Spacemaker a few years ago. I was worried that it wouldn't last for long but it's worked fine since then.

The magnetron has a 10 year warranty so the part was free but the service call was around $100 if I remember correctly.

    Thanks All!

I called GE and they are sending me a new Mega-thing-e free. Didn't even ask me to pay for shipping. I wonder if I can install it myself...Time to get out the crab hammer and butter knife.

Just an update. I received the part and took the microwave down. I found several how to videos on Utube and after about an hour I had it ready for a test. It failed so it is not the megnetron. Which probably means it is the diode or the transformer. Both are expensive parts so I got on Craig's list and found a very similar model in the correct color for $20. So I'm going to go get it and if it fits I'll be done. If it doesn't then I'll use the parts from it...

    Wish me luck!

20$ microwave from Craig's List fit and is working perfectly. Much better than the new $450 option.
