Just noticed we don't get the Food Network on the basic cable channels w/Open Band. When I inquired about it from Open Band, I was told to contact the homeowner's association, because they made the decision to pull it from the list of channels (may have substituted another channel, not sure). I can't live without Emeril! Anyone know about this?[:p]

I don't have Openband. But I want to know why the HOA is deciding what channels those customers are receiving. That doesn't make sense.

Regarding Food Network, we were told by an Openband rep that the original cable provider for Openband went belly-up. Thus, they scrambled to find a new provider. As it turns out, the new provider does not offer Food Network. I'm not sure what is being done, but we agree -- it sucks not having it.

Yes, the old provider for OpenBand's cable service went bankrupt. My understanding is that the new provider is really DirecTV (thus the constant DirecTV package upgrade ads and "tune to channel XXX" for DirecTV customer service that you'll see). However, DirecTV does not have permission to redistribute Food Network (nor TNN/Spike Network, apparently) to sub-providers. OpenBand said they were working on this problem ... back in MAY!

You should also note that OpenBand cable is really satellite driven (both before and after the change in providers). The dish is by the Southern Walk pool. Therefore, OpenBand cable is much more sensitive to weather than wired cable. During last February's snow storms, I personally brushed several inches of snow off the dishes to restore TV service one afternoon (having learned this trick as a previous DirecTV subscriber.)

Will be moving in sometime in the next couple of months, how is the sports package with OpenBand? Do they offer the same channels and options as DirecTV itself?

No, you don't have the option (that I know of) of getting the various seasonal sports packages. And you don't have all channels that are included in even basic DirecTV (most notably Food TV and TNN/Spike). It is definitely NOT</u> like having DirecTV itself. The most current channel line-up is available at http://openband.net/residential/video.html

We've been moved in for a month now and we just got our cable boxes yesterday. With the TV plugged into the wall we get channels like Speedvision & the ESPN extra channels (in the teen #'s), etc but those same stations on the cablebox (different channel # in the 200's or 300's) are not available. It says that we don't have a subscription to view them. But if I turn back to the teen #'s, there they are. I don't get it!

You need to turn your cable box off overnite so it can update it's guide. The dupe's in the 200's will disappear.
