I just heard from the guy at Nagoya that Cafe Panache has closed. It's too bad, they had really good food.

That was the second place to close down at that location. I wonder if it is more the location (in the corner) that is making it unattractive for eatin'?

Yep, they closed. I've heard rumblings for some time now. Pity. Loved their arugula risotto.

I wasn't impressed with that place either - too expensive and not that great of food. I don't mind going out to an expensive restaurant on occasion, but I expect top notch food!

i think it's a good location but seems like a different kind of restaurant needs to go there. PERUVIAN CHICKEN! A casual in and out kind of place that has a well stocked casual bar.

but again- it's the same fate many small business suffer here- not enough ppl that would LOVE their cuisine KNOW about them.

was every dish i tried there to DIE for? no, but most i thought were excellent. original creations that were anything but average. i enjoyed trying dishes you couldn't find on any other menus and experiementing with new flavors- if this isn't your thing then Panache wasn't your fave. i should have seen it coming when the brunch car disappeared.

get out there and support the non-chain businesses you ADORE by talking about it here and oh, i dunno anyplace business can be drummed up for it! or it will meet the same fate as Panache, Puccios, Entreevous, and others...

Yes, with the additional food tax we can expect that some people will go to Fairfax county to eat, which will cause some more restaurants to fail. I don't think it is a good idea strategically, because once the businesses go under the income for the county will be lower than it was before. I would hope that we could come up with more inventive ways to fill our budget short-fall than additional taxes that endanger our small businesses.

To close the funding gap in the budget, they are tossing around a 4% food tax in restaurants. I am not sure if it has been approved yet or if it is still just being talked about, I need to make myself smart on that, but I know it is at least in the works.

What that means is that when we go out to eat, starting next year, we would have to pay 9% taxes on our food.
