The usual method is to connect the two laptops, either by ethernet or a FireWire cord and run the Migration Assistant. It is in the Utilities folder. Normally it runs automatically when you start the new laptop for the first time. Migration Assistant copies over all your e-mail, applications, preferences, music, movies, etc.

When I attempt to migrate, I install itunes on the new machine.. then copy the entire Itunes folder structure from old to new, go to itunes -> Edit-> preferences -> Advanced on the new machine and just change the Media Folder location to the location where I copied the structure to.

I always ensure i am migrating from and to the same version of Itunes.

This works only if you have set Itunes to manage all your media with ITunes within its own folder structure. i.e. if you have the "Copy Files to Itunes Media Folder" setting turned on.

Disclaimer: I have only tried this on Windows machines.. not sure how macs handle this.

    Hope this helps...
