An open letter to the &$*$)# parents of the #*#&^$ kids who egged many cars on Ridgeway and other side streets:

It really BURNS :angryfire::angryfire::angryfire::angryfire: me up to see your kids PURPOSELY egg MANY cars on Ridgeway and other streets last night, including our own. Was this really necessary on your kids' part to take your own eggs (or even go to the store to buy the eggs) with the purpose of throwing them at cars and in some cases on the houses just for FUN? Do you realize that eggs DO cause paint damage on the cars? I highly suggest that you check your refrigerators for missing eggs....and TALK to your kids. If there are missing eggs that you know should be there and your kids are lying to you, then you've got real problems.

In case you didn't know, some of the cars belonged to some of the police officers who also live in the neighborhood and some of the police officers DO have cameras that record the actions around their driveways of their cars.

If you do NOT want your kids to be hauled into the police office to have charges pressed against them, I suggest you have your kids FORMALLY apologize to these folks including myself and offer to have the cars washed, then be prepared to spend significant amounts of money on attorneys AND have the insurance companies go after you for willfully damaging the cars (and homes) paint jobs and siding.

I don't think you guys really deserve the courtesy of living in this neighborhood but in the hills in West Virginia where hillbillies do this type of crap.

This isn't funny and it isn't "cool". Many of us have jobs to get to in the AM on Monday and coming out of the house to find our cars/houses egged on isn't our idea of a good beginning to the week as it requires time to clean up the egg crap off our cars/homes.

Surely, some of you may shrug your shoulders; but one day, it will happen to you then you'll have to go through the same crap as many of us do. I think it is HIGH time that we get the police involved in the evening on halloween after everyone has gone to sleep and drag the kids who are staying out long after everyone has gone to bed into the police department have their parents called upon to pick them up because many kids after such LATE hours are up to NO GOOD roaming around looking for nothing but to cause trouble.

Have a nice day to the parents of the $&$^#^ egg-throwing kids.

A fed-up resident who is tired of having to deal with kids who are BENT on damaging people's property for fun.

I think $200 is a bit too much to have to deal with. We shouldn't have to incur costs on behalf of the teenagers who think it is funny. I think we need to have a stronger neighborhood watch program and the parents need to begin requiring their kids to come home after 9. After all, almost ALL of us are getting ready for bed around that time. I had kids continually ringing the doorbell after 9...We were amazed that some kids were still coming by after 9. Some kids shouldn't be out after that hour when school is the next day.

We are going to install cameras after this latest charade...if I catch them, TRUST me, we are going to PRESS CHARGES. I don't care what others think or say "oh its just kids" doing it. They don't think on the other side of the coin...its because they are stupid enough to think it'll never happen to them. Well, guess what, if their kid gets charged...they'll have to hire lawyers WHICH WILL COST EVEN MORE. How stupid can they be to get to that point? Even better...if they retaliate...more charges, and more lawyer costs too! I wouldn't even have to pay a dime since the county will just handle it via criminal courts, not civil, because they committed criminal acts. I'll even go far to get tresspassing papers against them so that if they even step one foot on my driveway, I'll just have them picked up.

A neighbor told me that he's seen kids get in legal trouble in this neighborhood after doing similiar things that these kids did and costed his parents a pretty penny. Guess what happened? No funds left for college after lawyer expenses. Serves the kid right.

Although the kids may have taken the eggs from home they may have also bought them.

You may want to check with the "On the Run" or "Harris Teeter" to see if they sold a bunch of eggs last night. They may have cameras with pictures of the kids who purchased the eggs.

There was a large group of teens hanging out at the "On the Run" last night around 9 pm.

Good idea...I will call the county police to see if they can help. More evidence, the better.

cameras and tresspassing papers won't stop eggings.

They'll just hurl them from off your property out of the view of the cameras. You can throw an egg like 50 yards w/o much problem.

Active enforcement and active parents are the only way to stop them.

Not trying to justify their actions, but Loudoun County Schools have teacher work days today and tomorrow, so the kids don't have school today and tomorrow. So in reality, it wasn't a school night per say. Just trying to clarify things...

If the kids don't know the cameras are there, or don't care, they can get nailed. I'm all for cameras, make sure you get a good one that works well on low light. Be sure to check ratings. Do a search on these forums, this topic has come up before. Contact others who has installed them for advice.

Understood but if you happen to live next door to neighbors that have cameras also...you may have more vantage points...but you are right...when kids are bent on causing problems with NO FORETHOUGHT to how it can affect their parents finances due to attorneys, then the parents are the ones that are hurt as well by no less, their own kids. Some kids are just STUPID enough since their forebrains aren't well developed yet.

you'd be better off calling those places yourselves and inquiring, and presenting the police with what you find...

maybe that was your intnetion anyway :) but I read it as you will ask THEM to call around about egg buying on halloween...

Couldn't you have ranted justifiably without disparaging the citizens of West Virginia?

No, that is not what I was planning to do. I was planning to ask the police if getting copies or if they have to get involved to get the videos because some stores are very reluctant to get copies for anyone other than law enforcement.

..just saying, kids don't stand in your front yard to throw eggs, or just walk through the front yard house to house (as that would draw attention). They can stand in the woods, down the road, etc. Even the stupid kids don't ring your door and say 'hey, I'm up to no good'. They wander and hide in the shadows.

Even if you found tape of kids buying eggs, who is to say they ended up on your car? Maybe they are proactive kids getting ready for Easter.

Im not going to dignify your posting with an answer. Besides, the cops know enough to know how to handle something like this. They've got enough experience to catch suspects unlike you. Thank you very much for encouraging kids to think about egging cars on Easter. Real smart.

this is sadly true. even though 3 kids were caught causing trouble the SAME NIGHT 3 kids ran away from vandalizing my house, even THAT is not enough to prove guilt without an eye witness or confession.

buying eggs on halloween when you are a kid- suspicious, sure. illegal? nope. probably up to no good? yep. enough to get them in trouble? nope.

now the sheriff dept/ MAY be able to id the kids buying eggs, go to the homes of those kids and tell the parents as an FYI and encourage their kids to speak out if they know of anyone who threw the eggs, and then the parents might (but unlikely) force their kid to talk, but then the kids they ID can say MY eggs sailed far right- I didn't actually HIT anyone's car... and that's the end of that.

it sucks, but it's the way it works around here.

and cap- he wasn't saying EGG CARS on EASTER- I am sure he's referring to coloring eggs... chillax a bit. I am angry about it too as a recent victim, but don't take your frustration to and eggstraordinary level! sorry. bad pun.

Doesn't matter if the eggs missed the car or not. They partook in an activity that caused damage...THe entire group *can be* held liable according to an attorney buddy of mine down in Fredericksburg. He's actually had to represent some kids doing similiar things and his client ended up having to do community service and his parents had to pony up the $$$ to do the repairs since the kid wouldn't rat out his friends. So much for friendships, eh? Screw the parents and let the parents take the heat? Wow.

Sadly, kids will do anything to wiggle out of owning up to doing the damage.

Come think of it...If they SUSPECT some kids of doing it, who is going to stop the victim's family's own kids from doing the SAME thing to the suspect's home? Sure the family's kids will THEN say "My own eggs sailed far right"...

This whole egg-throwing crap is really stupid and only causes residents to distrust one another because they then wonder if their sons/daughter's friends did it. This only creates a chism between neighbors and friendships that have been forged.

Its time that parents begin to THINK about the ramifications this activity causes. Do families CARE enough to sit their kids down and have a talk with them? My own kid thought the whole thing that the kids did was really dumb.

Why are some parents stupid enough to let the kids stay out so late around midnight??? My own neighbor heard noises around that time of the night....Don't parents have curfews anymore or they let the kids run around the neighborhood until the kids are tired and go home around 1-2 AM???

how old is your kid cap? parents don't always even KNOW their kid is out that late. if your kid sleepovers at someone else's house and they make the poor decision to sneak out, am i a stupid parent for letting him stay at his friend's house?

no. he made a bad choice and if i found out about it he'd have serious consequences, and would never be allowed to stay at that home again since they aren't properly supervising the kids. but being unaware isn't the same as being stupid.

We're not talking intelligent ninjas here. If they are stupid enough to do this in the first place, you can bet they aren't bright enough to lurk in shadows and move along forests edges. They are probably driving slow down the street chucking them from a easily to spot make/model car. You most definitely have a shot of catching them with an installed security camera. Low light camera technology has greatly increased, and you have to pay for it (around $500 for a nice IR cam) but it can be worth it. These are from a quick youtube search.
