I am not sure but I've heard bikes throw at cars cause more damage than eggs throw at cars.

(I am amazed this topic is still running)

Thanks a million!!! I think this is gonna help!

Now, only if I can get that &#&^#% kid to do the cleaning of all the cars that he's hit. Im sure his parents are pretty proud of him after he's confessed up his antics from the halloween night.

I'm sure that some kid will pay the perpetrator's family back next halloween by egging their cars AND their house. Payback will be surely a b&$@* to them. Let them have a taste of their own medicine as some say...

That's because they are children. Wouldn't it be great to live like that again with no worries and responsibilities? And if they thought they might get a rise out of you with an egg on halloween, I'd say they succeeded. Move on!

It's completely logical to spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on surveillance equipment as a knee-jerk reaction to what is more than likely a one time event. I find it funny how Wikipedia and Google has made everyone on this forum and expert on egg biology, trajectory, impact, radius, circumference, etc. I now know more about eggs and video surveillance equipment than I ever wanted to know. I'm completely egged out, sick of 'em.

Egg humor: We went to Bob Evens and the waitress asked, "How would you like your eggs?" I said "Incubated, and then raised, and then beheaded, and then plucked and then cut up then put onto a grill then put onto a bun. Sh*t, it's gonna take awhile. I don't have time, scrambled!- Mitch Hedberg- RIP

The day they are caught is the day I'll move on. I hope YOUR own home/cars/property NEVER get damaged (or egged). We have had a resident or two have their houses damaged by some vandals (I've read on the forums here that the damages totalled well over $1,000 and, of course, some mailboxes were destroyed. (In fact, some residents reported that their mailboxes were destroyed not once --but TWICE.) Can you say that its very aggravating to have to pay over and over just to replace the mailbox so you can get your mail? Not only that, but the HOA probably will go after you don't replace or repair the damage on your property that you didn't cause.

I hope that this never happens to you but "moving on" isn't the answer. We need to be more vigiliant so that way we can catch this determined group of vandals as if insurance has to be paid out for serious damage (for example like the garage door having to be totally replaced) is uncalled for. This only serves to have the premiums for ALL of us to increase in broadlands if this type of damage keeps continuing.

If you have money to burn to repair or replace this stuff, more power to you--but for many of us, we need this money for other things. I don't give a hoot if this was eggs or rocks or BB-pellets or other damaging objects nor do I care its by kids or not. Its still WRONG and we as a neighborhood need to try to get this to stop before it really gets out of hand or some kid gets hurt by someone who really has "had it", Im afraid.

That gave me an idea. The next time we're at IHOP at the waiter asks how I'd like my eggs, I'm going to reply, "Give them to me Broadlands Style. Go in the kitchen, grab a few eggs out of the refrigerator and whip them at my car."

Don't forget to ask for vinegar on your eggs.

I don't think anyone here is defending the kids. I am, however, amazed that you're making such a big deal of this. You can't compare throwing eggs to throwing rocks or destroying garage doors. That's comparing apples to bowling balls.

Clearly you've "had it" and I probably won't feel sorry for whoever ends up making the mistake again and taking your wrath when you catch them, but I honestly don't think that you getting revenge will make you feel better. Maybe your misdirected anger posted here makes you feel better. I certainly hope so.

This isn't a case of being a "more likely to be a one time event" as you put it. Vandalism in this neighborhood is an ongoing thing. It may not happen every single day but it definitely is ongoing and no one has caught the kids/perpetrators.

If you are sick of eggs, then why make an egg humor statement here? ;)

cap, it will NEVER stop. as soon as the clowns who egged your car get older, graduate, and move on to college, prison, wherever, guess what? there's another group of middle and high schoolers to take their place and pick up the pranking and vandalism.
IT HAPPENS EVERYWHERE WHERE CHILDREN ARE BEING RAISED. it's reality- nothing will change that so you DO have to get over it.

get your video cameras and catch the next little perp and make sure he is punished. that is ALL you can do. had WE had a camera when we were recently vandalized then we would had caught them. will a camera stop the vandalism and pranks? NO, neither will perfect parenting or banning children from egg purchases. ;)

this topic has been beaten to death- it's practically meringue! lol

Oh believe me, I'll move on but Im going to be very vigiliant about catching these perps and when I do, I'll be content knowing that the law enforcement will deal with them via charges and their parents will have to fork over the $$$ for the damages if significant. Hope these jerks will encourage their mommies and daddies to set aside a "slush fund" to pay for their kid's damages. Im sure they are rich enough to do so as the media has reported that Loudoun County is the richest county so far in Northern Virginia. LOL

I agree that this topic is now meringue..Ha Ha! Maybe we can serve it at the next Kids movie out night at the Nature Center if we keep it frozen until next summer!

The paint is damaged ON IMPACT. It's literally the egg impact and shell that do the damage. The yoke and bits is just residual. There is no way to avoid the damage, if you are hit, the damage is instantaneous.

That's why some kids come home from school and tell their parents who egged who and what. Believe it, kids do brag to their friends at school on what they did.

...and the kids can be viable witnesses to the perpetrators bragging about the damage they did. If any of the neighbors or even I get a hold of those names, trust me, those names will be turned over to the law enforcement folks to be followed up on. Those whose cars' paint job is damaged will be able then to take legal action against those perpetrators if they do so wish.

I remember my own fraternity went after another fraternity for damaging our cars and fraternity house in the middle of the night while were were asleep but we were able to prove that they did it. Our insurance companies made the decision to litigate it and took them to court over it. Our insurance company won in court to the tune of over $25,000. Those guys got expelled from college and the fraternity at the same time...These kids had to go to work instead to pay off their debts. Expensive lesson learned by these punks. What's the point of this? Those guys bragged about it to others and sure enough, we were able to get witnesses and use them against those punks. This happened at GMU. Happened not once, but TWICE by the same Fraternity there. Needlessly to say, their own insurance premiums skyrocketed due to their shennigans.

As a continuation to this thread.....my friends and I were throwing a Sweet 16 birthday party for our 3 daughters at the Broadlands Community Center tonight, and the building got egged while we were in there. Fortunately several of the kids that were there saw it happen and knew the culprits. We chaperones went outside and were able to get a license plate number and then called LCSO. A wonderful officer came out to take the report, and was going to spend his evening rounding up these kids.....maybe they are the same culprits from Halloween, and will get punished. All I know is that we had 50 kids inside having a wonderful time, and I will say how proud I am of all of them, and I just don't get why these punks felt the need to do some vandalism. Nothing better to do on a Friday night I guess.

Did our security company show up? Or are they just around during the pool season?

They did not show up, but then again, we called the Sheriff's office.

As a member of the Board, I would be interested in finding out if the vandalism to the Community Center necessitated any cleaning and if so, how we could get reimbursed by the culprits. I'll bring this up at our meeting next Tuesday.

Thanks for letting us know about this incident AND for filing a police report!!!

Eric, the mom whose name is actually on the contract for the community center will be calling the office monday morning to pass along the police report number and info. It was only one or two eggs, and it did get only on windows, so it shouldn't be too hard to clean up, but that's not really the point. Like you I hope that the ones responsible end up having to pay for the damage. We certainly don't want to forfeit our security deposit as a result of a few punky kids actions. The sheriff said he was going to spend the night rounding the kids up so hopefully he was able to do that!

There must be a quote out there somewhere about Luck and Misfortune being near companions.

This thread reminded me of when I was a kid waiting in the backseat of my dad's car at the gas station. Another car full of kids drives past and someone eggs the rear window where I am sitting.

Were we unfortunate that we were egged? Or maybe you'd think we were just a little lucky it hit the window and washed off immediately.

But we knew we were VERY lucky.

My mom had her front window rolled down.
