Your story reminded me of of my teenage years as well. I was hanging out with my friends, when the girlfriend of his older brother drove down the street and tried to egg us. Well, they pulled up and said "Hi" and asked for the older brother. We stood up and then they proceeded to throw the eggs at us. I don't remember how I ended up with an egg (on the ground didn't break or I caught one) but the driver realized that I was now armed and she proceeded to drive away. At the top of the hill is a stop sign and they have to stop. I threw the egg on an arc from 3 houses away and when they stopped at the corner the egg landed in the backseat! The car was a 72 Buick Skylark Convertible. They spent the next couple of hours cleaning the car. One year after this happened you could still smell the egg on really hot days.

    Enjoy!

Seems like these kids may be the same kids that egged the houses/cars on Halloween night? I'd be interested in learning if they indeed are the same kids!

That's purely speculation on your part. Since you filed a police report for your incident, and there was one filed for this one, I'm sure the Sheriff's office will determine if there's a correlation. If you're curious if it was the same kids, call the Sheriff's office and ask to speak to the officer who took down your report. You probably won't find your answer here on these forums.

Personally, I doubt you'll ever know if it was the same people who egged your car. Unless someone admits to it or there are witnesses (which doesn't seem to be the case with your incident), it will be extremely difficult to link the same perps to the two incidents if you ask me. But like I mentioned above, feel free to reach out to the Sheriff's office; that's what they're there for.

I know you're frustrated, but you've done what you can regarding what happened to you. At this point you can work with the Sheriff's office to see if there are any leads and/or put things in place (such as cameras, etc) to attempt to catch the next incident. Personally, and this is only my opinion, continuing to show your frustrations and the tone in your original postings simply serves to 'fuel' the efforts of whoever did this. You might think you're 'scaring' them, but I personally believe you're probably having the opposite effect. Again, this is MY opinion as a resident, and not that of the Board, Tech Committee, etc.

Just wondered that is all because I was surprised that some kids egged the community center, 'tis all.

I know it would be a long shot that it might be the same kids...who knows..it could be copycats...Besides, how do YOU know if my frustrations ARE fueling them? You don't even know for sure. By the way, the sheriff that came to my house said the BIGGEST problem in Broadlands/Ashburn area is that a lot of the kids are basically bored here because there is NOTHING for them to do. Not my assessment here but his own. But after thinking about it, he may have a good point there,...I dunno.

*Shrugs* Like some folks said here...its just a matter of time before some kids are caught.

But I do know one thing: Crime around here is definitely rising..just look at the amount of car break-ins lately with the theft of mostly GPS items in Ashburn area.. FWIW, I just learned from the officer that came to my house just how many officers patrol the area in the evening and I was pretty surprised at what I learned.

Anyway...I've accepted the fact that the egging is gonna happen no matter what we all do. Not much can be done about it and no one probably will ever get caught/punished over it. Like one friend told me..too many (not all) parents will cover for their kid nowadays.

That's been going on here in Ashburn since I moved here in 1999. And in 99% of cases, they enter cars that are left unlocked. It might look like it's rising all of a sudden, but if you look at the historical numbers, it's almost a 'seasonal' crime, which spikes now and then, but is pretty 'even' over the last several years. Just like the video that was posted by the Sheriff's office earlier today, if the car doors are locked, they move on. If everyone would take a few seconds to remember to lock their cars every evening, this would be a non-issue. The car 'break-ins' are crimes of opportunity in our area and nothing more. They're happening in our area because folks forget to lock their cars and leave valuables in plain sight. If you want to complain about something, complain about those folks.

Why complain about these folks who accidentally forget to lock their cars? I'd rather complain about the criminals/pranksters because they are the ones who are *doing* the crime. I used to live in Vermont and hardly anyone ever locked their cars (and home doors) until a couple of kids from New Hampshire decided to murder a college professor in Vermont shattering the security people had there. That incident alone caused a lot of folks to lock up their cars/homes.

The people that accidentally/intentally leaving their cars unlocked shouldn't be called out upon. Its the perpetrators that should be bashed upon since they are the ones who *DECIDE* to commit these acts of crime. Whatever happened to respecting our property/cars? Just because someone has a GPS in the car means its there for the taking? *just being sarcastic here* Just my opinion.
