Does any have any problems on the Barber Carpet that vanMetre installed? This carpet is getting snagged and very low quality. If you are planning to get it, please don't get the upgrade and save your money. If you have any problems with it, please respond to this forum. I am trying to get an independent carpet expert to give me a report. I will seek every possible way to get to straighten the quality including FTC!

    Thanks,

    KK

No problems (yet) since our home isn't finished. However, we have ordered Berber for the basement.

How long have you had the carpet and how frequent/concentrated are the snags?

We purchased a Fitzgerald resale. It had berber carpet in the family room and in the library. We got rid of the family room carpet immediately and put in nice normal fluffy carpet with a good pad. We love it.
Personally, I think berber carpet is uncomfortable, dirt gets stuck in the lumps and it is hard to keep clean. I have never "purchased" it but now, seeing it in this house, I know I would never choose it. I do not think it is designed for rough wear. If you are looking for something like that, I would choose "indoor/outdoor" or a carpet that can take a shampooing now and then. You cannot clean a berber carpet effectively and it is made of "plastic" so it absorbes odor, yuck.
I hate this berber in the library and can't wait to get rid of it.

Personally, I like the berber carpet. I had in my old home didn't have problems. This one shows the stains and snags. What a shame, I have a dog and they blamed him for the snags, but it doesn't explain why I didn't have the same problem in my old home:(. Of course the quality is the major factor. I have berber in my family room and basement. I was thinking to have that because it is more sturdy to wear and tear. If your house is not built and you can change your selections. On the contrary, the standard carpeting is very good. If you are planning to have something better than the standard, save your money get the real quality/designer carpet that you know they will honor your warranty. I am regretting that I paid the extra money for this carpet, I would have gone to any carpet place and get a very good carpet for my basement and family room for the same money.

As a neighbor, I feel responsible to warn new home buyers, because if somebody did before I bought the house, I would appreciated that.

SK8R - I agree with you they are using very low quality hard berber carpet. It is a shame that we - the buyers - are paying average over a $500K for the houses and one small item is lowering whole quality of the house. Eventually I might go thru your route to change my house carpeting in the future.
