What are the rules surrounding the # of cars a person can have parked on the street or in the driveway at any given time? It's getting ridiculous in the Broadlands west - I feel like I live at wallypark at the airport!

As long as the cars are legally parked and are properly licensed there are no restrictions on how many cars an individual may have.

I agree. It is dangerous to have the white pickup truck and the big commuter van parked in the street lane on the road to Villages of Waxpool. Really can cause issues.

I think those vehicles belong to the house on the corner which is Village of WAxpool. Their hoa site is: http://www.waxpoolhoa.com/ in case you want to get in touch with anyone.

Is there a guideline or rule to how long a car sits without moving. As the street becomes a storage lot vs an overnight place to park?

Nope.. as long as it's registration and tags are current.. it can sit there indefinitely on public streets if parked legally.

And if the car has a cover and the tags are not visible and the vehicle is never moved - how would one ever know? I compare this to storing a trailer.

In many cases, I have seen law enforcement pull the cover off a vehicle to inspect its tags and stickers if they are informed of a vehicle that has been parked in this way for an extended period of time. If tags and stickers are valid and the vehicle is legally parked on a public street, then there's not much recourse...

Thanks for the answers, it still irks me that people store their cars on the street especially 1/2 block away from their house

I have a van parked across from my house like that. In the three years I've lived here I've never seen it moved. I know it must have been driven at some point because the inspection was done last year but this year there was a "failed" inspection sticker in the window. I haven't checked lately to see if it is approved now or not. As someone said, as long as the tags and inspection are current a car can be parked indefinitely. The van near me is a bit of an eyesore but otherwise not really a problem in terms of backing out of my driveway or impeding traffic on our street.

I assume there are no restrictions on my neighbours preventing them from parking their cars in front of my house?

No - same answer - as long as they are legally parked and properly licensed they can park there...and yes if we have a complaint about a covered vehicle, we will try to take a look at the license plate to see if it is expired. If a vehicle has flat tires, missing wheels, broken glass, etc. then it is considered a junk vehicle and we can have it towed.

What would it take to get a curb made into a firelane? The dead end street I am on really isn't wide enough for two-way traffic if someone parks on either curb. Unfortunately, only one is painted.

PM me your information and I will take a look into it. A lot of it depends on who owns your street - ie the HOA or VDOT. If it is VDOT the process is a lot more cumbersome.

The white pickup and various cars parked regularly on Laurier belong to the house on the corner of Ridgeway and Laurier in Broadlands. I have seen them going in and out a few times. The 15 passenger vans appear to be commercial although they don't have any signs on the outside.

The problem with Laurier is the road is not wide enough to park cars on with traffic. Not sure if parking could be restricted there due to the lack of width.

Not to hijack this thread but are there restrictions parking a boat on a public road?

If the boat is parked on a county road, the following Loudoun County Ordinance (480.10) applies:

"480.10 PARKING MAJOR RECREATIONAL EQUIPMENT IN RESIDENTIAL ZONES.
No person shall park any major recreational equipment for longer than twenty-four hours within or along any public highway of the County where the land abutting such highway is classified as a Residential District under the Zoning Ordinance of the County.
For purposes of this section, a 'major recreational equipment' is defined as travel trailers, pick-up campers, motorized dwellings, tent trailers, boats and boat trailers, houseboats and the like and cases or boxes used for transporting such recreational equipment, whether occupied by such
    equipment or not.
This section shall become effective on June 15, 1997.
    (Ord. 97-01. Passed 2-19-97.) "

As such, if this boat is on a public road (and in a residential area) as you indicate, and has been there for over 24 hours, you can call the Sheriff's non-emergency line and let them know.

You can find all the Loudoun County Ordinances which apply to parking in Section 480 on this page:

    http://www.loudoun.gov/Default.aspx?tabid=326&fmpath=/Ordinances/Codified/Traffic/Parking

I live off of Fullerton Street in Overland Park and I see this all the time that cars park on both sides of the street although the houses across from me have the Fire Lane curb painted yellow. You can not see the yellow very well or the word Fire Lane " exception of today when it's cloudy and raining you can see the word Fire Lane, but the yellow is fading. Can they be painted Red or repainted a bright Yellow.. That street's not that wide for having cars park on both sides...

I will bring it up at the HOA meeting on Tuesday and see what can be done.

thanks... I should clarify a little.. when the neighbors have guests over they park on both sides.. It doesn't happen everyday but it does become a nuisance when it does happen and you have to wait for one or two car(s) driving before you can proceed to go..
