Ozgood - Yes, please! We would like to borrow your trap. The Loudoun Shelter has a wait list for traps and I think we are 10th on the list. How big is your trap?

It has been a really quiet weekend and it looks like most of my signs have faded or washed out. I will be replacing signs this week and hope to get some more sightings.

Saw a large black cat at the intersection of Plymouth and Faulkner/Shellhorn this morning. It was on the edge of the gravel road (Shellhorn) looking to cross at the intersection @ 5:45 a.m. but got scared when a motorcycle raced up the road. It ran into the grassy area beside the gravel road.

as a non cat person- i have an honest to goodness question- after SO much time has passed, if sunflower HAS been on the loose this whole time, will he be harder to keep in when you get him back? you know, sweet freedom, hunting, open space- I completely serious when i ask if this kind of long separation from a domestic household changes them?

Send me a PM and let's handle this tonight. :)

Our trap is a medium size. When I get home I will venture in to my garage (shudder!) and find it.

From what I've read, the answer is sort of...

Yes - a cat is more likely to run away again.
No - The cat is happy to be back in the comfort of home with shelter and reliable food/water.

The cats who have returned after being away from home for serveral months do take some time to readjust to the comforts of home, but they are also more loving and thankful for their homes.

I know it seems like he has been gone for a long time (7 weeks!), but from what I'm reading on lost/missing cats and being on missing pet forums, it isn't that long and cats don't have the same since of time as humans. I'm reading about cats being found months, even years, after they've gone missing. Every story ends with the cat returning home, sleeping a lot and purring the whole time. I hope we have this kind of happy ending.

Does anyone else have a humane trap or know of anyone who has one? I would like to set up some feeding/trap stations at night this week in two or three different locations. It looks like I have one, but need a couple of more. I have to put food out and slowly introduce the traps for a couple of night before I move the food all the way back and set the trigger for the door to drop.

I would also like to borrow a Wildlife/Hunting camera. Does anyone have one to lend me or know someone with a camera?

    Thanks!

This is a great sighting! Dan saw a cat in the came location about a month ago and we searched for hours without seeing it again. This location is very close to home and is right next to where the search dog took us. The pet detective told us to concentrate on this area, which we did - day and night for three weeks!

Thank you so much for letting us know about the sighting.

What will you do if you trap a different cat?

The shelter told us to just let it go. I figured I would take a picture and post it on a lost and found pet site. Of course if the animal is injured, I will take it to the emergncy vet in Leesburg.

    I hope I don't catch a fox or racoon!

Doesn't it defeat the purpose to post a picture on the "lost and found" site when you've already released the animal?

And, IMHO I think you were ill advised by the county to release the trapped cat if it is not Sunny.

We used a humane trap for our dog and it wasn't helpful. We trapped a raccoon and after that nothing approached the trap. Instead we were changing out dog food covered in ants every day. We left it out for the entire time our dog was missing.

I just have to say that we are truly lucky to live in such a caring and kind community! Thank you everyone for your support and encouragement.

Too bad we can't get the story into a local paper...

Have you put a lost ad in the paper?

I've put lost ad's in Ashburn Today twice and The Loudoun Independent. They are small ad's without pictures in the back of the paper.

Do you think a reporter would find the story print worthy? In the least it could be a story about community support.

It could also be a great story detailing the extraordinary lengths you have undertaken to try and find Sunny, as well a public service piece to highlight the resources available to LoCo residents who may be experiencing the same problem.

Considering the extordinary efforts your have put forth, I wouldn't hurt. It's easy for me to reach out to a couple of reporters that I know, via email, cell & facebook.

Just let me know if it's ok to give them your contact info and I can get the ball rolling for you.

Sure! The more I can get the word out, the better chance I have of bringing Sunflower home.
