Authentic Italian Pizza? I didn't know pizza originated in Italy. Anyway, where's Catanuso's located?

    I haven't been, but here's a review I found from backfence.com:

"WOW!!!!!!!!!! The pizza party that Catanuso's Cafe/Panineria hosted today was wonderful. Luciano (the owner) was kind enough to offer the community pizza samples today from 1:00-4:00, and I am so glad I stopped in. He also gave me a coupon for when I order a large pizza--I'll get 50% off the second one I order. This place truly understands what it means to treats its customers well. Not only is Catanuso's providing us with quality, fresh, healthy ingredients, but with discounts, as well. I love this place. I came home tonight with two large pizzas, Il Pesto (one of Catanuso's best panini), which comes with chips and a drink; and a cannoli...life is good! Thanks, Catanuso's Cafe, for everything!"

Catanuso's is AMAZING!!!!!!! Finally, authentic (and truly authentic, not what the chains claim to be "authentic") Italian food in the Ashburn area. When I want Italian, Catanuso's is, seriously, the ONLY place I will go.

Where is Catanusos? ie: Where is Parkhurst Plaza? Thanks.
    Would like to try it.

Have not tried that place by Five Guys yet.

Thought Emilos was good, though to us it seemed a bit more expensive than other places maybe?

We still think Broadlands Brick Oven Pizza is one of the best and nicely priced too? Large cheese pizza for $10 can feed all 4 of us (we do salad with it too). Their Supreme is great too - I think it is about $16.

My husband and I tried Catanuso's several months ago and walked away quite unimpressed. The paninis were not good at all. We have not tried their pizza though, because we prefer Emilios or Primo Italiano (the BEST!) in Reston.

We recently tried Emilio's for the first time. In our opinion it was overpriced and is only good "by default" of others being so bad. It was rather tasteless, but yet was an honest attempt at least at NY thin crust. It is also a real pain to get to the place now, as an aside, if doing take out. Bertucci's is still better in our opinion.

    Quailpond,
No way! I was so surprised by your reply about Catanuso's. You've gotta give it another try...maybe the time you went they were having an off day or something. I truly don't eat at any other Italian place anymore...their panini are so good and so are the pizzas. When you go back, try one of my personal favorites--La Parmigiana (chicken parm), Il Pesto, or Classico Italiano. And my favorite pizza is Pizza Pesto...but, seriously, they're all so good. The sauce and the toppings are out of this world. I hope you have a better experience than the first time.

Have a great evening everyone! Stay warm!

    Kahlua1,
Parkhurst Plaza is in Ashburn Farm...it's in the shopping center with Buffalo Wing Factory, Pizza Hut (ick!), Shoppers Food is in there too. I hope you like Catanuso's when you go...it's my absolute favorite :)

    Take care :)

We have had a series of somewhat "regular" take-out pizza places since moving to the area in the summer of 2000. So since this thread has morphed into a general pizza discussion, here's my $.02...

our first, Emilio's: Very good pizza, and unique topping combos. However, it's pricey for pizza and way too big of a pain to get to if only doing take out (haven't been there in a few years, so I'm sure the access problem has gotten worse).

our next, Giovanni's in Leesburg: Okay NY-style pizza. But, I live in Ashburn...talk about a pain to get to for take-out!

then, Pommodoro's across from Lowe's: Again, okay NY style pizza. Still, not close enough...especially since traffic has been getting worse on rte 7.

now, Pommodoro's ice house: I don't think it's as good as the other Pommodoro's, but it'll suffice for now.

tried a few times and thought "yuck": Manhattan Pizza (kids like it, probably because it's so soft & greasy), Buffalo Wing Factory (what was I thinking?), and Domani Ristorante (which must be Italian for upscale Domino's)

When growing up near Philadelphia, you could get good pizza everywhere. I've lived in enough places now to know that this was a regional phenomenon. Oh well. I'll give Catanuso's a try...it's in the area.

    Hi, all :)

Just got in from a long day, but no fear...I have Catanuso's pizza for dinner tonight. Things are lookin' up!! If you haven't tried them yet, do so! More and more people are apparently finding out about them--when I went in tonight, the place was packed with people placing their orders...apparently word has gotten out and with good reason.

Just wanted to check in you guys. Hope everyone is having a great week. Thanks to many of your comments about Cafe Panache's brunch, I'm going to go this weekend with my boyfriend. I'll let you know what I think!

    Take care :)

My family all thought the crust tasted like thin cardboard. Not impressed. Have yet to find our favorite pizza place. We still liked Lou Malnati's in Chicago. Other favorite was Mary's in Fredonia NY.

Now we are talking pizza! You can have Lou Malnati's pizza Fedex'd to your house. It comes frozen and is cooked in the oven. We have had both the sausage and the cheese. The cheese cooks better. I think there is something about the frozen sausage and too much moisture that ruins it.
