Thanks Neil. I appreciate you taking the time to write that and give me some insight into the life of military personnel. Hope you know I meant no offense. It was just a question. It's hard to get any kind of real idea what it's like having not been there myself. But wow, I didnt know the pay was so low and the conditions so stressful.
Thank you for serving our country.

While I agree, the reality is it ain't gonna happen in this area - period. I found you get better service when companies give back to the employees, happy employees make happy customer service....

Thank you Neil for your response. As a military wife whose husband just came back Iraq, that post got my blood boiling. Even though it may seem like a monetary windfall to those not in the military, most of the money gets spent just getting by. Like, flying to visit family over the holidays so you don't have to spend it by yourself and so your children will have a nice holiday. Not to mention, the excessive buying of gifts for the kids to try to give them some happiness while they are whining and crying everyday about where is there daddy. Or the fact that with two toddlers, it's more difficult to do some of the jobs around the house that the husband would normally do, so you have to hire and pay someone else to do it. I could go on and on, but you get the point. Enough said.

So here's proof that Safeway is reading this. I went in yesterday to finally return my expired item. The assistant manager was like..didn't you post on the forum? Why yes, yes I did. She said it really opened their eyes & they definitely read all the posts.

Why would you try and buy your kid's happiness... isn't that a bit shallow?

IMO "getting by" is not flying off somewhere or buying excessive gifts...It's paying the mortgage/rent and putting food on the table.

To borrow a line from neilz, <rant on>:

Give me a break. So military families shouldn't get paid enough to have the "luxury" of flying to visit their families because their father/mother is in a war zone during Christmas?

If you think our servicemen/women are so overpaid, I suggest you enlist so that you can see for yourself. You will quickly learn to respect what our military families go through in times like these! Maybe then you won't begrudge their holiday travels and a couple of extra gifts for the children.

    :(

    Edit:
Oh, and to get back on topic: In general, I like the Safeway. It has it's problems, but I am glad to see that Safeway management appears to be responsive to our concerns. I want to see it succeed in Broadlands; you can't beat it for convenience.

    I concur with SarasMom.

The original point of this topic was to identify the shortcomings of Safeway, i.e., expired food items. Now that the District Manager and others from Safeway are reading this thread it should be used as venue for suggestions and improvements related to Safeway. Please keep topics unrelated to this discussion off this thread.

    1. Did I say that the Military was over paid? Sorry if it was implied.
    2. I stand by the fact, regardless whether Military or Civilian, "getting by" is not taking vacations and buying gifts.
    3. I personally have had no problems with the new Safeway.

Amen! We finally got somebody who monitors our forums and is taking action as a result. Let's not squander the chance to make this a positive, constructive thread.

Did anyone else get a call from a company doing surveys of the local supermarkets? They were asking questions about which store we shopped at, the quality, prices, etc. It took about 15 minutes and I finally got it out of the surveyer that they were from Safeway. I told them they didn't have to be so secretive and that they should let it be known that they are concerned about how they're doing and want to make improvements.

I like the new Safeway. It is clean, well stocked and convenient. My only gripe is failure to respond to requests.

It would be great if Safeway was more responsive to bringing in requested items. I currently shop for a product at Trader Joe's in Reston because Safeway doesn't stock it. They carry the brand so getting it should not be a big deal. I requested it twice and waited patiently but nothing has happened. I keep going to Trader Joe's and buying other items while I am there. If I could get what I wanted at Safeway I would spend more there and skip Trader Joe's.

For your special needs, and item requests, please make sure that you speak to our Store Manager Mike Eidson. He will make sure that the requests get through to the right people, and if it is a manufacturers change, he will let you know. One way or another, we should be able to get the items you are looking for unless the manufacturer stops making it or changes it. Many times this is the case, and sometimes we are one of the first to eliminate the product.

    Thanks

As I stated earlier in the thread I am currently using Peapod delivery. I noticed on your website you offer home delivery in other areas. Is there anyway to get home delivery here? I would consider trying it out if you did. Thanks

The safeway is OK, but nothing special like I had hoped it would be. To my suprise, Wegmans has the best prices and the nicest people, but can they keep it up? I hope so. I still go to safeway for the pharmacy and quick store runs since it's so close...

Under the heading for what it's worth, I went to Safeway last night (30 June) and noticed when I was getting strawberries, that a lot of them were moldy. I brought this to the attention of the staff. They listened courtesily but I did not see any action taken while I was still in the store. I am very happy that Safeway management is monitoring this forum and responding to the issues raised. That is influencing my decision to continue to give my patronage to Safeway.
