I went to the SunTrust bank inside the Safeway this morning and saw several men in suits talking to a group of employees (possibly managers?). I sure hope they are working on cleaning up their inventory.

The prices at Safeway are definitely higher than any other store around here----it is very frustrating!

    Here is an example:
They sell cold sodas by the register for $1.19 + tax.
Just outside the store I can buy the same soda from the vending machine for $1. (I even saw a Safeway employee buying a soda from here and then going back into the store!! They don't even shop at their own store!!!)

How can they say their prices are competitive when their own vending machines are beating their prices???

They also have a sign on the fountain soda machine that says "No refills, you must pay for another soda" (or something like that)
C'mon ....what store doesn't offer free refills these days???

I hate going there, I hope it closes and is replaced by Giant or even Shoppers.

    Just my opinion, of course!

Be careful what you wish for. Chances are it wouldn't be replaced with a another Giant or Shoppers. How many of these do we need in Ashburn. It would probably sit vacant for a while, until the "indoor" flea market opened up.

I wouldn't mind seeing it replaced with a Barnes & Noble. We could use one around here.

I don't do any of my shopping at Safeway... unless I need one thing right away.
Their prices are horrid and their stuff is just average...
I think they should close it down and put an ice rink in there :p

Went to Safeway this afternoon - as I have just come back from vacation didn't have my card with me - keyed in my phone number - machine didn't recognize it (have had the card for about 10 years from Countryside Safeway and my phone no. hasn't changed) - the staff wouldn't just swipe their card - said it was against company policy - so I just walked out without buying my groceries. Went to Giant, keyed in my phone no. and everything worked great. Way to generate customer loyalty Safeway!!

I've had this happen to me as well.

One time I asked if they were going to get the small cards that go on your keyring (like everyone else has!) and the cashier told me no, but that I can cut mine and punch a hole in it!

    I really don't like Safeway!!!!!

It's a real shame. They are so close and convenient. I still shop there out of convenience but it becomes more difficult on every visit. I still find expired items on the shelf. They used to have great sandwiches but now it takes 15 minutes to make and they don't make it right. There are only a couple of good cashiers. Many times I have to make a choice between slow and slower. I have also noticed the shelves becoming kind of bare. This is especially true in the meat case. They only have a few pieces of meat in the case, a very slim variety of cuts and they never have a meat cutter on duty. On top of all that they charge higher prices than any grocery in they area. I, like most people, don't mind paying a premium for variety and service. This store provides neither.
