We got a nasty infestation of bag worms on a few of our evergreens. Little spray job and all was taken care of though.

    Just a heads up!

also I think that if you can reach them, it is a good idea to wear a glove and remove the bag of worms by hand.... put them in a bucket of water and dump them down the storm drain (my advice).

Dumping anything down a storm drain isnt a good idea environmentally, or legally. :nono:

If you remove them by hand, put them in a plastic bag, tie it tight, and put it out in your regular garbage. The plastic bag will suffocate them.

I agree with the principle of not dumping things down the storm drain but what would you say is not environmentally safe about dead worms? And including the water from the bucket, I am not sure that your specific point in this case is really accurate? What would be illegal about water and dead worms? Again, I am very careful about this stuff and would not want to give stupid or unwarranted advice... so if I am missing something I will certainly admit.

Oh and I like your idea better any way...

Your method is the recommended solution.

Would have gone that route but there were too many to get at. So, I just sprayed them and not a single one is moving any longer. But yes, they are still on the tree.

we had this problem many years ago. Unless you dont take them off the trees they will spread to others. At the time we were also told to put them into a bucket of soapy water and dump them somewhere away from the house. They are very persistent and I have seen them around on the trees/evergreens by the paths.

From what I've been reading (thanks google) if you remove from the trees, remember to snip the silk band that held the bag on otherwise it will girdle the branch as it grows.

I never knew what these things were... now I know. Eew.

Will they spread even if they have been sprayed and are dead?

The birds are removing them from our trees and dumping them on our driveway. Not sure what that is about!?

Propane blow torch! They get a little crispy, but it's effective. It also gets rid of the entire nest. While I am doing it I am imaging that other worms are watching, and fear the wrath of entering my yard.
