Do what you believe but please don't insult us and the schools .

I am not educated in this country but from what I have seen, heard and experiencing , public schools here are very very good. I just started sending my child to school and I am very impressed .

Also don't you know ( you must have known anyway ..silly me ) that parents and teachers both are needed for a successful learning ?

    Thanks

I can show you plenty of teachers who are against the government and their bureacracy.

So if they teach them that everyone is equal despite their race or religion, that is wrong?

If they teach them that slavery was wrong, that is wrong?

If they teach them that sharing is right, they are wrong?

If they teach them that 2+2=4, they are wrong?

If they teach them that George Washington was the first president, they are wrong?

If they teach them to try and figure things out on their own, they are wrong?

If you go back quick enough and make changes, it will not show up as being edited.

    Gryphon,

I have just read through this entire string and this is what I am left with : you have decided to home school your kids and you resent having your tax dollars pay for the education of the kids of those parents who have decided to use the public school system. You criticize LCPS without any particular evidence to support that criticism (I'm not buying the "look at what those kids are wearing, look at the drug use, gangs, etc" because, as has been mentioned, these things are not unique to kids who attend public schools). I have a daughter in 1st grade at Hillside and I have been extremely pleased with the quality of education. I understand that she is early in the process and I am sure that she will have teachers/classmates along the way that she likes, others that she doesn't, some who are outstanding, some who are not (kind of a microcosm of life, isn't it ?). School is about learning to read and write, etc, but it is also about learning to interact with unfamiliar kids/people -- isn't that what we all ultimately have to do ? I don't profess to know much about home schooling (admittedly, it seems an odd concept to me), but conceptually it seems to me that it might not provide the ability for one to grow outside of the watch of a parent/familiar adult who is providing the guidance. As parents, we all have to let go a bit at some point to allow our kids to grow.

FYI: I attended Elementary, Middle School, and High School in Fairfax County and then attended college at a Virginia Public University.

Interestingly, if anything I hear Gryphon's basic premise as far right, not far left. Isn't it liberals/democrats who are always hammered for government programs/spending ?

I wish the admins would just end this thread. Its not so much the conclusion from Gryphon that irritates me, its the faulty analysis. Although I do disagree with his conclusions, his delivery, poor evidence and explanatory powers are what bother me the most. I have had great debates on this forum, but the majority of them were carried out with honest and intelligent thought. Yes it's inflammatory but the poor logic is ridiculous.

Just a reminder for those interested in special education issues in Loudoun County Public Schools, there is a meeting of the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) tomorrow night (November 5) at 7 pm in room 102 at the Loudoun County Public Schools Administration Building right here in Broadlands. The topic is supposed to be systemic issues with inclusion. The meeting is open to the public and parents of special needs children and interested members of the community are highly encouraged to attend.

Gryphon, are you saying that public school students are enslaved or oppressed by government indoctrination...that they become dependent on the government providing for them?
