Ok, the Steakhouse and Buffalo Wing Factory owner won the Van Metre House. Go Figure!

I guess he owns a slew of restaurants and now another house!

Looks like Van Metre (Can't get anything right) spelled his name wrong on the website unless he has a twin brother Belal El-Etari.

    Conspiracy?

I guess the Van Metre Attorney will have a fun time checking on this guy (considering the type of establishment he operates). He must meet all of these terms and conditions….

The Sweepstakes is open to legal residents of the continental United States (except residents of Florida, New York and Rhode Island) who are at least twenty-one (21) years of age as of the date of entry. The Sweepstakes offer is void in Florida, New York and Rhode Island, and wherever else this Sweepstakes may be prohibited or restricted by law. Directors, officers, employees, and agents of any Van Metre company (or an affiliate or subsidiary of such company), or any company associated with or involved in the development, production, implementation, and distribution of the Sweepstakes (or an affiliate or subsidiary of such company), and any member of any such person’s immediate family or person living in the same household as such person, are ineligible to enter the Sweepstakes. An entrant will be ineligible if, prior to the date for the drawing for the Grand Prize, the entrant has been convicted of a felony or a drug-related misdemeanor charge, or has felony or drug-related misdemeanor charges pending against him or her, or if, as of the drawing for the Grand Prize, the entrant has been convicted of or has charges pending relating to any crime, whether felony or misdemeanor, that the Sponsor determines in its sole discretion involves drugs, violence, or moral turpitude that would reflect poorly on Van Metre Homes, Marquis Custom Homes, their affiliates, related companies or residents of any Van Metre community.

That was utterly uncalled for! Your post strikes me as biased at best or racism at worst.

Maybe he had a deal worked out to sell the house back to VM since he just bought a Steakhouse in Broadlands for 3.5 mil. Hmmmmm

I agree. If the man was able to get an ABC license, I'm willing to bet that he will pass the VanMetre morality test!

My love for the Steakhouse is no longer because of the changes he made, but I congratulate him on winning the house.

You don't find it the slightest bit interesting that a guy plunks down 3.5 mil. in a VAN METRE community and then is handed a 400-500K house (in return)? Oh and they "tweak" his name on the website?

Yall are completely missing the issue.... Who cares about ABC licenses and morality.

I have no issues with the raffle, just with your post.

I am also not the one questioning a raffle and citing elligibility rules. Simply by posting the rules, you allege that Mr. El-Etari is not a US citizen or some sort of felon.

or not a resident of Florida New York and Rhode Island or are at least twenty-one (21) years or a member of a family of a person affiliated with the contest or……. The list is 3 pages long. Amazing how you (T8erman) pulls out felon or citizen. Again...you have issues

look at the more important facts.. 3.5 mil in community.....free house

SO! What does that have to do with anything? People with money cannot win a raffle or lottery? And I doubt VM receives any payments from tennants of the mall the OSH is located in. I could be wrong but I would imagine Saul Centers received the 3.5 million.

And it is not totally free, someone will have to pay taxes!

yea, I have to generally agree, I think you went way too far with your assumptions and conclusions T8erman. He clearly said "type of establishment" in his post (which I think more clearly suggests something seedy) and to immediately jump into the bias and racism comments I think was too far and not called for either. The list of eligibility requirements is a mile long and to jump to one of many conclusions based on the amount of information cited is not fair.

I think the gate can swing both ways, but in this case I would have to say that it swung too far on your part... not that it is impossible you are right, just not fair to swing the accusations based on simple (possible) missunderstandings or reading too much into something etc.

You know anyone that knows Van Metre he is a straight arrow as they come, and this a bunch of crap to think absolutely anything is going on here. People ought to be ashamed of themselves otherwise until they have absolute proof of any wrong doing.

I don't know Lee. I think that arrow is a bit bent (for other reasons).

Also, Saul Centers bought the property from Broadlands Associates years ago. Van Metre has nothing to do, and no money made, from any future transactions on the site.

I can understand where you are coming from Cliff :)

I would not even dream of going there especially on this forum. ha ha

But to think a contest like this would even have the slightest impropriety is nuts.

Like you say Cliff, Van Metre has nothing to gain by this anyway.

Come on now. Aren't they TRYING TO SELL $1M+ HOMES IN THE VERY COMMUNITY that relies on that shopping center. That is like saying that they didn’t promote Clydes in 1999 when I bought my first home in Broadlands. We finally have it 8 years later…but trust me. Van Metre made it well known that a “Clyde’s will be built.” Do they get profit….yes off the sale of the home. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the connection.

For example, would you feel differently if the owner of Clyde’s had won? Perhaps not, but Van Metre sure used it in the sales pitch.

    Now you are realllly stretching

Your point before was that the shopping center was VM's and somehow they would have benefited from the OSH's sale. But they don't own the shopping center, and they don't get the money from it.

From your latest attempt, 'marketing'... the OSH was already there before the latest owner bought it. So how would 'rewarding' him as you infer benefit VM? It was already there.

And TB.. the 3.5 mil would have gone to the previous owner, not the landlord. Landlord is only collecting on their lease, not the business itself.

Has anyone tried to e-mail Van Metre to get an "official" stance? It would be interesting to hear their spin...
