If you're going to use that as an excuse, why not have the class at night so the parents can go enjoy a dinner alone or go to an adult xmas party? Chances are only one parent is going to benefit from the peace and quiet in this scenario.

Brim - first, even if one parent benefits, it is THEIR choice. Second, why the hell do you care?

I care because it seems like ridiculous fleecing and someone needs to call them on it.

    Ah, holiday cheer abounds!

    9:30-12:30 = 3 hrs / $60 = $20 / hr

BUT, who knows how many people will be there so if there are 2 people, $10 / hr. The cost of a sitter. The $$$$ comes from the child per sitter ratio.

    It's a 2 day workshop, hence the 6 hours.

And brim, i wasn't using that as an "excuse". we're not even in town those days.

Considering babysitters are charging anywhere from 8 to 15/hr, I don't think this is so unreasonable.

True, but it sounds like a fun activity for the kids and a break for the parents to get some last minute x-mas shopping done without dragging the kids along. Shopping this time of year isn't fun for anybody, and having miserable kids along just makes it that much worse for everyone involved.

why argue.. the only one complaining about the price is the guy who doesn't have kids. Obviously doesn't know what it means or what its worth to pay for such an activity

Who cares who has kids or not, $60 is a ridiculous price to pay for kids to bake cookies. $10/hr is fine for a babysitter, but that isn't how this is being represented.

If it's the experience you want, go buy the stuff yourself and spend some quality time in the kitchen with your child baking...I'm sure they'd get more out of that than being pawned off on a stranger to do it.

$60 may be ridiculous to YOU but not to others.

This is an opportunity for parents to let their kids have fun with other kids in a supervised environment. At least they are not playing in the streets (we all know how you feel about that!).

And to put the shoe on the other foot, I "could" say, "your child isn't worth $10 and hour? Cheapskate!"

I am not saying you are wrong or right in this case, but they way you present you argument(s), well, sucks!

When people are deliberately mean-spirited, I feel I need to call them out on it.

    Happy holidays!

    you like to bicker.

think of it like camp, brim. your parents know how to play b-ball and sing songs, but it's fun to experience it with other kids in a different setting. and you don't break camp down into an hourly rate and decide on a babysitter instead- it's apples and bananas- j'know?

we didn't sign up- I wasn't really sold on the post.
