Is this the cost per child or per family?

I've been doing my best to ignore this thread, but I'm frustrated enough I'll post...

Can we be get over the comparison with baby sitters? This is two days to where your kids get hands on in an instructional setting, learning how to cook/bake. You don't have to provide supplies, etc. And the kids get to take them home at the end to show of what they've been able to do. A baby sitter usually requires you to provide everything, and usually has the parents popping a video in as they head out the door.

Kids enjoy being able to do something w/o Mom and Dad around too. Not only do they get to do the activity with some friends and meet new ones; but they get to show off what they've learned to their family afterwards. Anyone with kids knows just how happy/excited your children are when they can bring home something they've made without your help (at school, camp, at a friends, etc.); and give it to you as a present.

My wife and I cook with our kids. Our oldest (10) took the similar course offered this summer. At the end of it, the parents got to come share in the meal that the kids had learned to make during the week. While she's made similar stuff with us before, she was so proud when her Mom and Grandmother came to have two dips, salad, lasagna, bread, chocolate cake, and apple pie they had made. All of that was from scratch; ok, except for the lasagna noodles. She was so proud of having done the pie, that she volunteered to make it again for Thanksgiving dinner. All I had to do was help with the shopping and working the oven, she wanted to do the rest by herself.

Anyway, we signed our oldest up for this also. She was looking forward to it, but I'm not sure if there was enough response to hold the class (the announcement missed the newsletter). Hopefully, the lovely opinions in this thread won't discourage people, and prevent similar things from being offered at the community center in the future.

Don't worry about it. There were only two negative responses on this thread, one of whom is childless, doesn't live in this state, and rarely has much good to say about anything!!!

I really wish people would stop using the childless crutch.

Brim - when are you going to stop using the "I feel I have to call people on stuff" crutch?

Sounds to me that if you do not like or agree with something it MUST be wrong. I would bet that 4 out of 5 posts of yours rip, shred or criticize other peoples views or opinions. I wonder, was your relationship with your mother that bad? (Fruedian joke).

I am a fairly skeptical and arbitrary person myself but compared to you I must still believe in Elvis!

As Sgt Hulka said: "Lighten up Francis".

well when you get some personal experience on the topic maybe you'll be a bit more qualified to give other people their 'opinion' on the topic

Yep then they turn into teenagers and drive. :D

I wish my kids were that young again and would spend the day making cookies. :)

I also hate people that do not have kids and comment on them like they were experts. [}:)]

I just found a bunch of them (teenagers) down in our movie theater the other night at 3am . no wonder teenagers sleep all day. I asked my kids where did they come from and they replied the internet. ha ha ha
OH brother, Now that is scary!!! :D

I have extensive personal experience in purchasing baking goods (the cost of which was my initial problem with the post), so I'm more than qualified to speak to that point.

Perhaps I don't want kids so that I don't feel compelled to spend 60 some odd dollars to get rid of them for several hours during a holiday...or have to worry about them driving...or any other worrysome activity that kids can get into.

I'm sure lots of you have strong opinions about subjects about which you have little to no personal experience dealing in (like politics) but that doesn't make your opinions any less valid.

When people stop blathering retarded stuff to be called on...

Thats because some of the things that go on in your little wonderland up are pretentious and need to have an opposing viewpoint. I offer up helpful advice when it's needed and I can provide some.

I have a great relationship with my mother, thank you. However, I have an even better one with your mother.

OOOH, mother jokes! Now you sound like a teenager!

People like you are often referred to as "a tool" and I truly doubt you have a tool that would satisfy my mother.

Maybe that is why you do not have any kids!

Elvis is alive and living in a retirement home in the South with a man with JFKs brain fighting soul sucking mummys. Discuss.

Well Homer, I do not believe that the original Elvis is alive. However, I do think that aliens have cloned him many times over, hence the unthinkable need for over-sized sequin jumpsuits!

As far as JFK's brain, I don't know. I thought the operation to remove it from his member was not possible at the time.

(Lord, forgive me for participating in this juvenile behaviour on an initially innocent thread)

You're never too old for mother jokes and since you left yourself wide open for one, I took it.

And folks like you are often referred to as an 'internet tough guy'...lots of lip behind a keyboard feeling like you have to stick your neck out there with "HEY, YOU'RE A JACKASS!" comments. Nobody cares or looks up to you for it. There are several of you here that are guilty of this...

No...the reason I don't have any kids is that I value my free time. Not having kids relieves me of the pressure of paying $60 to be rid of them for six hours of peace and quiet. And finally...

    Brim,

I take offense to the picture you posted in your last message. I have a mentally retarded sister and I do not think it is at all funny that you get a kick out making fun of people that are mentally or physically challenged. Apparently you have way too much free time on your hands if you spend so much of it on these boards cutting people down.

Brim, yeah, maybe I did leave myself wide open and I bet you would like me that way wouldn't you?! Is that another possible reason you don't have kids?

Why don't you find something more constructive with your idle hands and free time? Oh wait, no kids, maybe you do have a hobby using your hand afterall!

You don't live here anymore and based on your comments, you didn't like living here. Yet you feel you must help us poor Broadland souls in our collective misery. Give me a break!

If anyone is hiding behind their keyboard it is you. Your constant drivel and vitriol gets old and that is why I feel I have to CALL YOU OUT!

FWIW, no one on this board has called you a jackass, you seem to have given that label to yourself.

So, I will let you get in the last word (as I know you will) but please, just go away!

Since the event is over, and this has degraded into another off-topic tit for tat, I'm closing this thread.
