I was wondering where people in broadlands are sending their kids to daycare. I know of the few places in Ashburn but am wondering what people recommend or don't recommend.

Same with any babysitters for those rare nights out. I have a daughter who will be 1 year old when we move into our home. I would love any resources.

    Thank you.

    Great question, Speckhard!

As one of the 'moderators' on these forums, I have a simple request for everyone.

As everyone is aware, the Web Committee takes very serious steps to protect the children in our community. As such, many of you will have noticed by now that we never post pictures of minors with their names, etc, on our website. You will also note that when we post an electronic version of our community newsletter on our website, we strip any information related to minors, such as babysitter info, or names under pictures of minors.

While in the past, some parents have voiced their disagreement with such a policy, we have also gotten an overwhelming amount of input applauding our stance on these issues. We would rather lean on the side of safety first, instead of regreting it later.

On this note, I would request that if anyone has a babysitter to recommend to Speckhard or to anyone else in our community, please do so by contacting the 'poster' directly. This can easily be done by clicking on the poster's name, located to the left of each 'posting'.

Feel free to discuss anything related to daycare or babysitters on this 'thread'. We welcome these discussions! All we ask is that when it comes time to give out any names or telephone numbers, this be done in a more 'private' setting. Of course, if the babysitter information relates to an individual who is NOT a minor, then by all means use these forums to exchange information, as long as the individual in question is open to having their information posted here.

I know some of you might disagree with the Web Committee's stance on this. Believe me, whatever reasons you might have for us to change this, we will remain firm on this rule. We take the safety of our children here in Broadlands VERY seriously and will never put them at risk by posting their private information online. As such, if any contact information relating to a minor is posted here, we will regretibly have to remove that information as soon as it is noticed.

Thanks to everyone for their understanding.

    Great - complete understand.

So I have looked at the new boyd school being built but realistically as two working parents we cannot put our child there based on no after school care for children under age 3.

We are looking into Chesterbrook Academy and Open Arms. Does anyone have little ones that attend either of these schools?

We looked at Open Arms and loved the school, but the waiting list for the infant room was incredible. It was over year wait and we started looking into daycare when I was 4 months pregnant. We looked at just about every single facility in the Ashburn area and we went with Winwood (Hay Rd & Clairborne Pky). We love the facility.

Thanks - do you have Winwood's web or phone number you can email me?

    Thanks!

    speckhard,

You may want to look at Loudoun County's Child Care website:

    http://www.loudoun.gov/services/childcare/

It's a great resource for daycare centers or State licensed home child care. We have a 16 month old who is in home care with a lady in Reston that we found through a similar site for Fairfax County. We're moving to Broadlands in February and we've considered moving our child to a closer location, but he loves where he is.

The Loudoun county website lists daycare centers as well as home child care providers. We've been very happy with home care and I saw quite a few people listed on the site that live in the Ashburn area. Hope this helps. By the way, home care is usually cheaper and more economical than the daycare centers.

    http://www.winwood.com/

We choose Winwood because of the lower teacher-student ratio and the secure access web-cams.

I have emailed Winwood and asked them to forward info to me.

I am greatful for the suggestion about homecare. We have a lovely woman that our child loves. When we move to Ashburn, we will not be moving our child out of her current daycare however, the person we use only does it until our child turns 2 then we have to find something else -- at this time it would be likely in the Ashburn area. I am then more interested in a facility or school that does organized learning - maybe some 2nd language type things -- still lots of play time. And with the wait list to a good school - now is the time for us to look.

Someone also suggested Minnieland. I am interested in talking to someone who has a child in either Chesterbrook or Open Arms. The latter surprised me that they are not NAYEC certified.

Thank you for all the response. And as always - we are looking for a great babysitter for that rare evening on the weekend we can sneak out and have a life - so if you know of anyone in Broadlands - send me an email....

Speckhard, once you move in you will begin to receive a copy of our community newsletter in the mail. In that newsletter is information on the baby sitters for the Broadlands. The newsletter is bi-monthly and the next one is expected out anytime now I believe. You can see our newsletters here online, but the contact information for the sitters is of course removed for reasons stated above. If you don't get one when you move in, drop by the Nature Center and see if they will give you a copy.

Regarding daycare, you might want to check Christian Fellowship School. Their preschool offers both before care and after care and their teacher-student ratio is low. I have 2 kids there.

Where is it located? I currently am on waitlist at Open Arms and will find out this month if I can register the wee one. Fingers are crossed.

We have been really pleased with Kindercare in Ashburn Village.

Speck - from what my wife and I have researched, very few daycare centers are certified/accredited. We have found figures ranging from 5-10%.
Something else you may want to consider is a daycare facility near where one of you works. We are fortunate in that our son's daycare is in the same building that my wife works in. They are accredited AND a non-profit organization run by parents which keeps our monthly bill lower than almost all other providers in the area. They are "Westfields Play and Learn" located in Chantilly.
