I haven't been able to get the high channels(>200) on my Directv all day (friday 12/5). I can get the low channels fine. Is anyone else experiencing this? If so, I can attribute it to the 2nd satalite, if not then I'll have to assume it a problem with my dish (on top of my roof ... aarrgghh!).

    -thanks

Frankly, it was also happening on Adelphia, all the 'digital' level was out. This may have something to do with sunspots, satellite reception, the phases of the moon, snow ??

My DirecTV went out during the storm, but it was due to snow build up on the dish. After brushing off the snow it was back to normal.

On another note, has anyone else with DirecTV noticed a faint horizontal bar that seems to go up the screen continously on the local CBS WUSA channel? Both of my TV's seem to have it. I also notice that local NBC WRC channel fades dark sometimes and then goes back normal. All the other channels (local and non-local) look perfect.

I'm seeing these problems on both of my recievers (Sony and RCA). I thought it might be my dish, but I'm beginning to think these problems may be in the actually signal being sent to us.

    Anyone else see this?

It is black/dark and really ghosty? I noticed that too...I thought it was my TV. Good to hear someone else noticed it. :)

Yeah Wes, now that you mention it, got the same thing going here....so it must be the signal.

if it's something with just the local channels, then it's probably not a problem on your side of things like you're thinking.

I've always wondered how they uplink all the locals to the satellites. I wonder if it's piped back to their main uplink station in colorado or whereever or if each local station can send their signal directly up.

I have the exact same problem as Wes. I've had this problem for about 2 or 3 months now and always assumed it was something in my entertainment system hookup.

I have two DirecTV receivers and this problem occurs on both TVs. The brightness of channel 4 (WRC) occasionally goes down and then back up as if someone was playing with the brightness control. And there is a rolling bar on channel 9 (WUSA) that is always there.

I think if we all call and complain eventually they will realize that it is in the signal they are sending to us.

I have what I hope will be good news in the long run...

    Channel 9 (WUSA)
According to DirecTV, this is something that they can fix and the woman I spoke with forwarded this problem to the 'engineering department' while I waited on hold. She did not indicate when it would be resolved. But she said that they were going to look into it right away.

    Channel 4 (WRC)
According to DirecTV, this is not a DirecTV problem but a problem at the local station. I got very lucky here. I called the station, was transferred to "Mike" in the Engineering department. He did not answer his phone and his voicemail box was full and not accepting any new messages (sound familiar...). But the voicemail said to press '1' to get "someone answering calls for this number" (whatever that means). I did this and got someone who was clearly talking on a cell phone. It might have even been Mike. He told me that he would report the problem to the right people and try to get it resolved as soon as possible. He sounded sincere. I asked him for a contact name and number at the station for this problem. He gave me the name and phone number of the Chief Engineer and said that this is the guy that will ultimately be responsible for solving this problem. If it's not resolved after a few weeks, I will start calling the chief engineer and hassling him every few days.

With a little luck, both problems will get resolved in the next few weeks. But I have absolutely nothing to base that timeframe on.

It looks to me like the channel 9 rolling bar is gone. But the channel 4 darkening problem is still there. HOpefully, that will be resolved soon.
